Oil change Q

I am planning to do a interim oil change on my 335D this afternoon. This is my first time changing the oil filter that is a paper cartridge, normally its been the metal ones.

Am i right in thinking the plastic cap unscrews, pull out old paper filer, renew the rubber ring, push new filer into place and screw on?

Also which is better to drain the oil, after the car has done a short trip where oil is warm or from cold?

Thanks

Oil warm.
Cap is very tight - mark with paint to ensure it goes back up correctly.
You will need a strap wrench I expect as its very tight.
The rest is evident once you lift the top.
The filter is not handed and can go either way up.
Ensure the small green Oring is replaced correctly.
Lube new rings with oil.
Omission or damage means oil will bypass the filter

If you buy the OEM filter, all the instructions are on the box in colour diagrams.
Use a socket to undo the top of the housing.
Here is a pic for the 330d (335d is the same).

Thanks guys, oil and filter changed without any hassle.
I had the oil changed this time last year and have done 14k miles since then. My idrive is telling me I have another 7k miles to an oil change but for peace of mind as a yearly change is good enough for me.

7.5 litres of Castrol edge 5w30 LL04 Fully synthetic - £26.99 x 2 (before some of you say castrol...marketing ..better oils out there etc). For me as long as it meets LL04 BMW spec I am happy. Hengst oil filter from euro car parts.

For info purposes, the oil filter cap is 32mm socket bit to undo

Hi - mine is also due in 7000 miles which takes it to January and i really do not fancy doing this in the winter. Where did you get your oil from? I noticed that car parts 4 less are identical website layout to eurocarparts and get a lot of stuff from there if it helps anybody they are cheaper too :-)

Here you go, strange on their website when you put in you car reg and go to the oil sectins it shows up brands I have never used before like valovine/car lube etc

But when you search for castrol itself it is on the website
