2009 BMW 328i Oil

Hey guys all help is greatly appreciated!

I have a 2009 328i Base model, at this very moment the car is telling me to add 1+ quart of oil. I just recently got off the road from a short trip. The trip in total ended around 200 miles. I say that to say that I didn't have any issues at all. I get in my car and the oil symbol pops up. I have everything but the actual owners manual, this is my first time needed to refer to it. I don't have oil spots showing, I park on dirt at work and would have noticed oily dirt. At least I hope I would lol. Also I heard mention of oil consumption, could someone enlighten me?

First shows oil change with 6k miles to go and second shows what to add.

Added a quart and the alert went away! Why does this happen? Could it be a leak?

Doubt you'll notice any oil under the car as the bottom is covered by a splash panel. It could be due to a leak from oil filter housing, valve cover and/or oil pan gasket. Very common issue and likely the problem if they haven't been addressed already.

I took this photo from google but right where that black top is near center of the pic is where the first oil leak was repaired.

Engines do burn oil. Any of the common leaks on the N52 do not leak a significant amount of oil.

If you have to add a quart consistently and relatively frequently I'd take it in to get it checked out and maybe have a smoke test done. The N52 engines are known to pop small leaks here and there but with mine I never need to add any oil over a 10k mile oil change interval even though I see a bit of seeping from the valve cover gasket.

Thanks for the input! This is the first time I've had to add oil. The last time anything was done with my oil it was getting changed.
