In a word, no.

The process can take up to 2 years - 2 YEARS!

I haven't had the time to complete and return the forms as of yet however it's on my action list.

Oh right i was just looking at the tyres on my car and every tyre has got alott of wear on the inner edges more on the rears than the fronts, when fealing the inner edges it has worn away a big radius just wondering if anyone knows why this happens. I will upload some pics later

Hi,
You should get this replaced for free as it's a manufacturer fault. Basically - oor quality alloys that rack under the slightest pressure. Go in to your local BMW garage and kick off big style.

I went in on their busiest day (saturday), stood in the middle of the Sales showrom and shot my mouth off, many a potential customer turned their heads to listen.

They replaced the wheel within 24 hours.

I don't pay £557 per month for this rubbish - simple!

Do a search on cracked wheels 19" alloy run flats, it's all over watchdog etc.

You have to stand your ground, i'm having to go through the process again because the same wheel has cracked. This time I am getting them toreplace all 4 wheels and one tyre which has been ruined within 3 months of replacing it because of their shoddy alloys. My car has only 20,000 miles on it.

Good luck!

Sod that, mine took 3 months and that was long enough! Though i'm very persistent and annoying when I want to be and I think it was less hassle for them to give me my money back than not .

This happened to mine, I went to my local tyre company for advice and they told me the car was not balanced correctly. BMW tried to blame it on pot holes, I laughed and asked them if that was the answer they ought to take a look into how they manufacture cars as a Ford mondeo can take more impact than that. They replaced the tyres £foc.

I've just been told I have a cracked rear MV3 wheel, it's not leaking air but it's an MOT failure. They told me in the garage that it's not due to impact or buckling its just poor wheel design!

Not sure what I should do next.
Should I contact a dealership and expect BMW to replace or just buy a new one and get it fitted?

Just been reading all of this thread and thought i would add my experience with the cracked wheel. See this quoted response from BMW Hungerford when i asked for an explanation of the tests done and the verdict on my wheel/tyre.

"Explanation of the run out test:

The tyre is removed from the wheel and placed on the balancing machine, a dial is fitted to the wheel and then it is spun manually. The dial will pick a point in the wheel and then measure the lowest point of the rim and the highest. The highest will be the crack. When the wheel is turned the wheel will start to move side to side. The dial measures the ovality and this is the measurement for impact. If the measurement is under 2.0, then this will be deemed as below BMW tolerance, if the measurement is above 2.0mm then it is deemed as impact damage.
The measurement for your alloy was 2.66mm.

I have spoken to our tyre/wheel technician who fitted the replacement wheel and he is unable to confirm how long the wheel has been in that condition. It could of happened 4 weeks ago or 4 months, it is difficult to tell as the wheel obviously travels through various bumps in the road, puddles, mud etc. However there were no signs of run flat damage to the tyre so this shows the tyre had not been leaking pressure. "

Its left me confused as i thought the tolerance was 3mm?

Worth considering and pointing out the pointlessness of checking the tolerance of a wheel that has already cracked, therefore is bound to be out of tolerance.

Any challenge to their prized "run out" test is given with a robotic well rehearsed response of "we only get given the figures and the process of the test."

If i wished to challenge this i would have to speak to BMW uk who promptly refered me back to the garage with an equally as well performed speech.

The question they wont given an answer on is to explain the damage to my wheel. I've asked if they are blaming an impact of considerable force why wasnt there an issue with the wheel alignment or suspension damage.

farce

the whole cracked rims things is a complete utter farce.

i have gone through 4 sets of alloys now and must be 14-16 wheels.

Alloys per 4 generally costing over £600 and tires, always the rears, at over £340.

Recently BMW stealers wanted £410 a tire for 255/30/19 Bridgestone.

I am about to post a seperate header on my experiences of ownership over almost 4 years and the very expensive leasons i have learnt.

all i can say here is ditch Bridgestone RFT ASAP as soon as you have a problem as its only going to happen again and then again.

Just had the run-out test and it came up as 0.9mm out so that was a pass. They then contacted BMW who agreed to replace it free of charge.

Good result, certainly wasn't expecting it.

hi guys,

Took my 335D in for its first service under my ownership today, and I have two frickin cracked alloys. The cars history shows it already had 2 replaced earlier in its life.

One thing that stands out as an anomoly though, is one of the cracked rims is the FRONT! I can't see any reference to anyone else that has had a cracked front alloy?

The service department are running a run out test tomorrow. The wheel specialist thinks that the rear will probably be ok to be replaced but doesn't have much hope for the front as the fronts are not the ones that are at the centre of scrutiny and he has only ever seen one ever front before in 12 years that has cracked.

Now, the front is cracked in two places, which to me says it must be weak to have cracked twice?

IF anyone has any advice or tips it would be greatly received

Thanks,

Tom.

Hi Tom. I've had 2 x 230's replaced on mine for cracks, one front, one back. Rare, but there you go. Good luck. Only tip is that if they don't agree to replace it FOC, stay calm and keep referring the matter up the chain of command.

Good to hear that has happened

a friend of mine is actually the finance manager at the dealer that is delaing with it, and he has personally spoken to the warranty manager...i don't think much more can be done at this dealer at least!

Unfortunately my mate is going on holiday tomorrow which is a pain in the backside!

Hi,

I am new on here so apologies for this being my first post. I do love the car btw.

I bought my 2008 325 privately in June this year but before buying I got BMW to inspect it. They found no problems what-so-ever but the car is just over 3 years old so out of warranty. The car has the 19" 225s with the Bridgestone runflats.

Ever since June I have had the usual symptoms with the cracked alloy - constant deflation of the front tyre. To my shame I have ignored it until last week. I have only done 2000 miles since owning the car.

I took it into Scothall BMW last week and suprise, suprise, 3 cracked alloys and 3 new tyres needed and they wanted £2700 to replace them.

My chances of getting BMW to replace them free of charge look slim Has anyone considered ditching the 19" and replacing them with 17" wheels? Better profile and more suitable to the UKs potted roads?

why are your chances slim? What have they actually said?

But 17s would look rubbish so no I wouldn't consider it.
