Best Aftermarket GPS (Navigation) on the market.
I'm looking to purchase an aftermarket GPS (navigation system) soon. What do you guys think is the best one on the market? Best price? Most accurate? Help me out guys! I'm not looking to spend a fortune on one, but I do want one that works well despite the price. Thanks!

There's a thing called google. If you use this "google" and search for navi unit reviews, it will give you more accurate information then someone here suggesting a certain type of unit.
There are just too many models and sub-models and options for anyone to decide for you...good luck.

Garmin XT, on my cellphone, Nokia N82. Locks on faster than the Nuvi. The software is compatible with all phones that have built in receivers. Probably not the best for one in car, however great to have on my cellphone when I drive and walk.

Check out the Dash Express (Amazon & Crutchfield) or their website. The device is new, but has lot's of potential.

My girlfriend has a Garmin and wow it's a pretty dam good GPS system imo. Its completely portable, about the size of an Iphone, battery is rechargeable too. In all honesty you dont even have to use it as a Car gps it would work great for hikes and what not. The interface is very legible, and easy to use. The touch pad isnt at all kwerky like most GPS systems, its pretty button accurate as far as I can tell. The real live image is very decipherable, honestly there some systems out there with just Fubar road displays, but this one is very easy to catch on to and follow. for a Garmin plus the price is very negotiable (I think my girl picked hers for something around $200-300 dollars at bestbuy, I wouldnt buy shit from there though you can probably get way cheaper prices else where)

I have a nuvi 660 and a tomtom 720 to be honest I like them both. I like the 620 mount better than the 720 one though. But it seems to me like the 720 has more features than the 660, I also like tomtom software that comes with unit. Just opinion.

I just returned a Garmin W200
My wife was pissed when it took her 30 mins to lock on to a signal and she already drove around in circles. The other times it was slow to lock on and told her to take roads that didn't make any sense I never used it or had problems with it but then again, I have the OEM navi in my car. Her new C300 doesn't |

It ma be different in the States to Europe, but I find the Garmin truly awful.
I love the design, love the interface and the way it snaps into the bracket and the charge cable is in that, all these thing make it good from the go. But then you start to navigate and it is ridiculous the routs it takes you compared to other systems. It really takes you round the houses, I finally had enough when I was in Scotland, I wanted to go to up to Avimore from Kenmore which is 50 miles north, I was 6 miles from the motorway east and then 50 miles north up a nice fast road, however the Garmin insisted on taking me 12 miles up a single track to get onto that motorway 10 miles up it. By the time it brought me onto the motorway it took nearly an hour, going 6 miles out of the way and then straight up it took 15 minutes maximum. Terrible system, unless you are no wiser and don't know the route at all, ignorance is bliss I suppose? Do you get the Navigion based systems in the States?? Their routing is amazing, Navigon, Sony, Panasonic etc. all use it. Set it to OPTIMAL and and VERY FAST car and it will always keep you on the Highway unless it is obvious that cutting down a back road will save time. They actually choose the route I would, even in a city I know very well I can't catch it out, in fact in my home city it has taught me short cuts I never knew were there. If you get a chance to borrow one, set it to OPTIMAL routing and VERY FAST car and see what you think. |

I'm a fan of the Garmin 350. $200, and even though its screen is on the small side, it is easy to use an accurate.

I use a Nuvi 250. It's worked great except for the night it put me dead smack on the boardwalk in Atlantic City.
There were 3 cars on the boardwalk at the same time that night all Nuvi users!!

dash express. it uses GSM for traffic on highways and local roads (yes local roads).
xml interface you can write your own two way or one way apps favorite searches myroute - learns your route and when you select that destination from your current location it will choose that route forever as #1 tons of cool features. blows away the bmw nav. uses yahoo local and GSM modem to do searches. none of that "downloaded" junk from XM or RDS like the bmw nav. This is 2-way GPRS based. myroute totally owns for going to work and back. some gps's never learn. this one does.
