Brake Pads & Discs Renewal

Posted this over in the Brakes and Suspension Thread but thought best to post here given the response rate is likely to be quicker - sorry mods!

Might be in for replacing the pads and discs soon. BMW are quoting me some ridonkulous £500 for the just the pads and sensors (all round) minus the discs.

1. If I go down an independent route (indy specialist or otherwise), will this affect my BMWFSH?

2. Is this service from the stealers generate a stamp in the booklet?

3. If I go with no.1, what pads and discs should I go for and where's a competitive place to purchase? How much should I expect to pay?

Sorry to ask if it's been beaten to death!

Its a 320D.

Thanks one and all!

As brake service get stamped in yoru booklet, yes you will no more have BMWFSH. It also answers your 2nd questions.

Regarding 3 questions, if you want genuine parts, Anneka here can help you.
Pm her, what you want, and she will get back to you with discounted price.

What sort of miles do you have on your car and age of the car?
As that may help you to decide whether to stick with bmw, or go indi route.

^^
Thanks for that bro. Its 56 reg and done just shy of 60k. I've purchased of Anneka before so happy to go down that route. My local BMW are also offering me a free MOT if I go with their option. What labour charge should i expect taking it to BMW? If I buy parts from Anneka and ask my local BMW to fit, will I still get a stamp?

Thanks buddy.

I am not sure about how much will they charge. I cant remember how much I paid last time.

Yes you can buy from Anneka, and get it done at your local dealer and you should get the stamp.
Looking at the age of your car, you can try to come out of bmw service history, as it will make minor difference (0.5-1K) in your car resale. However you will be spending more than that to have bmw service history.
Its > 5 years but good on mileages.
What are you looking to change?
All brake pads and discs?

So for a car of that age and mileage with FBMWSH, what could I expect in resale value / px value? Any ideas?

My car hasn't indicated I need to change the pads / discs but my last service at the main dealer indicated that I'm due a change of pads and discs (all round) soon.

Do you think it's better to just go indy rather than paying more to maintain BMWFSH?

you OBC should tell you how many mileages are left on your brakes?
If it does not tell you to change, you do not need to change.
BMW promote their selling point, which is CBS (condition based service).
Your car will tell you when to do those.

I think your dealer is trying to make money....

Referring to your second question, I think I paid about £500 for all rear pads and discs from bmw.

Recently I paid only 100 for pads, sensor and labour ( for rear brakes) and I felt no difference.

Wait till OBC tell you to change them.

Personally if your motor is over 3 years old and warranty is not an issue, I would not pay BMW price.

Ditto!

Mines a late 06. I've only had it a month or so but decided from the start there is no point paying BMW prices. I will be going to my independent. I trust him a lot more anyway. He's a family friend and only really works on super cars. Done all work on my last car, Honda s2000 including an engine replacement.

well if you go to bmw the stealer is gonna, do you for the discs at the same time

these service advisors are just salesmen the more they sell someting to you for the more they get so your need to ring up a few to get the best quote

the pads are £220 in parts and a hours labour

btw the service advisor doesn't sound to honest to start with £500 for pads on a 5 year old 320d stay away

or buy the parts online for under £120 these are the same parts but just not in a bmw box or little stamp

get a machanic to fit them job done for under £200. this will do little to the value to your car either way
