Anyone know a good shop that is relatively inexpensive and will do a good job switching out my summers with snows this weekend.. I already have a wheel/tire package from tire rack so its strictly a switchover.. Or I am willing to bring some beers and do it with a local member if they have the equipment.. Can be in Metrowest area or Quincy..

Just sent my wife over to Direct Tire Auto in Norwood. Swap over price is reasonable and off-season storage for the other tire set is $100 until spring.

I would have done it myself, but I'm overseas at the moment

I did it at a local garage for $52.. Though it seems like they scratched the lug holes on the new wheels...

I have a 330xi with stock A/S tires, do you guys think I would be okay going through the winter? I know snow tires would be ideal but was curious if it was necessary since it seems alot of members have a winter setup

Depends. If you're planning on driving on any packed snow or >1" accumulation, I'd get a winter setup. I would err on the side of caution and opt for winter tires if you're planning on driving in anything worse than a light snow misting.

Yeah, most places have hackers doing stuff like swapping out wheels. They probably over torqued them too.

Thx cyphr for the suggestion, I was hoping the awd system would be able to handle the snow with some A/S tires, I'll test the waters around me neighborhood during the first snow fall and see how it goes..

I do have a 98 maxima I can use as a back up plan.

Went through first New England winter last year in 335xi. Fine for the most part, but in extreme cold, all seasons get hard and slide. I just got snows.

One of my lugs fell off as I was going 70mph on the mass pike last night.. The car started juddering.. Luckily I am at the dealer right now for other reasons..

Paid $50 bucks, and they scratched the wheels and didn't torque things down correctly?? Ouch.

Yep.. I asked the dealer to check all the lugs to be safe and they said more were loose. I guess I will have to find a new place for the spring. I'm just glad nothing bad happened..

Tire places are supposed to have you come back after 50-100 miles to re-torque the lugs too. Make sure the next place does that free of charge. Not sure if that's a requirement by law, but it's certainly good practice. I DIY the E90 switch, but every Tire Warehouse or Town Faire Tire I've been to has always offered to re-torque everything a couple of days later.

Good thing you caught the problem early. It's pretty sad that some shops can overlook the simple but very important task of correctly torquing the lug bolts. Give me a heads up when you want to switch wheels in the spring, I'd be more than happy to help!
