Engine oil

I have a 530d and wondering if it has to be turbo diesel oil I put in it. It needs topped up and I have smi and fully synthetic engine oil wich says on the can can be used in modern petrol and diesel engine. Thought I would check on here first but bearing in mind it's only just a top up
