what size wheels for track/strip?

if I purchase another set of lightweight wheels, would you guys recommend 17 or 18 inch all around? I would want to put slicks on the rear for the strip. I might take the car to a road course too.

I'd say 17s. The price of tires is much lower, and I really don't think performance (cornering) is significantly less with 17s vs. 18s.

With a drag radial you would definitely want 17s over 18s. Slicks? I haven't checked but I'm not sure if they even make an ET Street / Drag in a 17" size, much less an 18".

It'd be nice to get 18s for the road course but 17s would definitely be cheaper if you run through the tires often.

EDIT: Clarity.

+1 on 17's. Not only are 17's cheaper for road course use than 18's, there is a much wider variety of tires available.

I'd chose 17"x8.5" or 17"x9" wheels and run 255/40/17 tires all around.

Cheaper, yes. Variety? Not really sure this is entirely true anymore. I have ideas for my next 3 sets of tires, and they are available in 17s and 18s. (I ended up getting a 18 in. square setup).

Go with 17s, much easier on your wallet.

That's ok, I make up for it by not hopping around on one leg on corner exit.

Ouch, that was low, sorry.

Everyone pretty much said go with 17's because of the price. . .
Yeah they're a bit lighter but what is going to handle better?
I know 19's aren't too practical, although my favorite size an a E9x, so what about 18's?
Would staggerd 18's handle better on the track then 17's?

Right on with this!

I got ASA wheels just for the rear.

I have iForged for my street setup.

Stock rims and tires for my road course setup.

Now I will just run the iforged fronts and asa rears for the drag setup.

I should have the tires and wheels monday or tuesday. If i can get time to go to the track this week with them I will do so.

I went to the dragstrip to get a baseline and figure some stuff out on the car this past friday. Went a best of 13.2# at 108. So I have a lot of room for improvement.
