Lol, lazy bum! Yes, unlikely to have been used up, but I kind of sense you wanna 'mod' it

It would be great to have 2 track cars... one new with DCT (or equivalent) and one old school like say an M Coupé... Manual.

Anyways. if I was buying a new car, it would be with DCT, and a little part of me would die inside.

I figure why fight progress, even Porsche is fearlessly doing away with manuals. Another change is electronic steering, surely we can see what's coming down the line (to the point the car may one day drive itself ).

Any thoughts on this? Do I resist the trend?

Why not. You'll still have control over the gear selection. And thats the joy in any case.

I would have done a sequential gearbox in the M3 if it hadnt been so obscenely priced.

Well if I keep the 335, maybe that is just what might happen, that is if you count the 335 as a track car

Thanks for the honest responses! I will certainly consider the DCT then.

Do any of you know about this delightful development in Ft Erie right by the Peace Bridge and minutes from Buffalo?

http://cdnmotorspeedway.com/

Looks like by '16 it will be finished. The complex with include a mile oval and more importantly a 2.6 mile road course. I didn't see a final course map or great description, but heard it will include elements of some of the most loved older N.A. road courses. And more selfishly for me, I love the idea of doing a 2 day hpde and not having to spend the money and fuel for a road trip and hotel.

Can't wait, and a great project for our friends just over the bridge, as well as Buffalo.

Interesting switch:

http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...D_AM/131109923

Telcel/Telmex Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, winner of seven of the last 10 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype championships, will switch from BMW V8 power to Ford's recently announced twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine for next season's Tudor United SportsCar Championship.

The confirmation -- expected for a couple of weeks -- was made Tuesday Nov 5, 2013, during Ford's press conference at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Ganassi drivers Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas will pilot the team's Riley-Ford Daytona Prototype beginning with January's Rolex 24 At Daytona. Pruett and Rojas have combined for 27 Daytona Prototype wins since 2007.

“We're excited about Chip Ganassi Racing choosing Ford EcoBoost power going forward in sports cars,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, global product development. “We believe they will be the perfect partner going forward to work with us to further develop the advantages of our EcoBoost engines.”

Ford Racing, Colin Braun and Michael Shank come, see, conquer Daytona speed record
Ford 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, records a best lap of 222.971 mph on the 2.5-mile oval
By: Steven Cole Smith on October 9, 2013

Colin Braun puts Ford's 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 through its paces at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday.
Ford Racing - Colin Braun puts a Riley-Ford Grand-Am Daytona Prototype powered by Ford's 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 through its paces at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday.

After a complete tropical storm-related washout Tuesday, a power-steering pump problem Wednesday, then more rain, Colin Braun was able to beat NASCAR driver Bill Elliott's Daytona International Speedway record speed mark of 210.364 mph that was set in 1987, when Elliott was qualifying for the Daytona 500 in the pre-restrictor-plate era.

Braun, driving a Riley-Ford Grand-Am Daytona Prototype powered by a new Ford 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6, laid down a best lap of 222.971 mph on the 2.5-mile oval. The engine has a raspy, means-business sound that should make for an interesting aural mix when running against V8s.

Interesting that the teams have started to consider the Ford EB3.5 over the BMW V8 powerplant as a replacement in the Prototype class.

I think it may have to do with BMW being a relatively small company compared to Ford. Smaller company means smaller budget for engine development?

Maybe for same reason, we may see Mercedes and Audi (part of VW) giving BMW a hard time going forward.....

the following is impressive:

the 3.5-liter V6 with twin turbochargers that is based on a substantial number of production parts from the Ford Taurus SHO.
How substantial? More than 60 percent of the engine is from the production line, said John Maddox, who heads the sports car engine programs at Roush-Yates...........
The race engine uses the production-based engine block, cylinder heads, valve train -- “They're all real parts,” Maddox said. There were challenges, among them cylinder cooling, exhaust valve cooling, and cylinder pressures. Think about it: All the Daytona Prototype engines are getting a 60-horsepower boost, meaning the EcoBoost is pumping out about 600 horsepower. “So figure that the V8 was putting out about 540 horsepower, and that was divided between eight cylinders. Now we're making about 100 horsepower per cylinder with this engine.”

Looks like another year of no WGI for me. I was going to go to the June 24 event, and Delta had a mistake fare to Hawaii for $150 per person in first class, and that week was the only one I could realistically use. Guess what I chose...

(waits for a slap)

My hope is without the z07 package (no carbon brakes) will come in under 85-90k usd . The Camaro Z28 with full track aero, high-tech shock absorber and carbon brakes sells for 75k usd.

This is what is in the Camaro Z28, one of only 2 street cars to have this racing technology

A Canadian company makes this, who would have guessed....
