JB4 18.7psi @3,500rpm log w/ E85+93octane

I've been reading up on our TD03 efficiency, and how much maximum boost/rpm it can handle without going beyond it's efficiency range to overdrive and cause damage. I came upon this: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16074 (Credit member cstavaru).

What did I decide to try out? Increase midrange boost targets to 18.5between 3,000rpm-4,000rpm (previous kept at 16.1 ramping up to 16.7 in that same range, and a peak of 17.2psi @ 5,500rpm) to see if my car is happy with it while keeping high rpm boost targets/tapper the same as running Map 5. The picture of the log I'm attaching is the very first run on map 6; it takes approx 2-3 runs for the JB4 to learn the curve completely. At first, the initial A/R ratio scared the crap out of me, but then I looked at my previous logs, compared it to other peoples, it they are inline with other JB4 users. COBB fueling reflash in my future to solve that

Notice my LPFP value (Oil temp) dropping below a value of 50, it only happens when temps are below 60F at higher boost levels , but my HPFP value's are spot on.

Mods: JB4 G5 ISO, DCI, approx E50 mix, no methanol.
Avg Ignition Correction: 0
Autolearning level: 15 (which is apparently the max value)

Anything dangerous spotted? Please let me know, nothing out of the ordinary has creeped up yet, smooth as butter, minus the substantially more aggressive induction growl/drone in the midrange caused by more boost. Midrange torque/acceleration gain is noticable, I overshot peak target by .2psi (18.5 input, 18.7output)

Running almost 19psi of boost with only a dci and e85. You've got some balls on you.

alot of people do it. you can hit 18 quite easy with just 2-3 gallons of e85 added onto a tank of 93.

hits quicker also.

19 psi is just way too much for stockers...Turbo replacement is eminent

Guys....this is 18.7psi in the MIDRANGE, not up top, and still below the turbos efficiency range at the specified 3000-4000 rpm. I'm still running normal tapper up top for a piggy, which does overdrive the turbos past efficiency.

Nonetheless, this was only an experiment to see if my car is ok with it.

Theres a difference running 19 psi at 3500 rpm vs 6500 rpm. Once you people learn that, you'll see that the OP boost curve isn't all that dangerous. He's dropping to 14 psi at 6500+ rpm which isn't too bad.

The backpressure on stock dps may suck though.

I understand that Ben, I just feel running 19 psi at any rpm its just not a good thing for stockers any way you put it...Anytime you end a sentence with isnt too bad, that is not good! lol

Then your tune of choice is bad for stockers as well.

Nothing in that log screams "stop now" to me, pushing 19psi midrange is aggressive but it tapers well. I'd imagine you heatsoak like crazy running fairly aggressive boost and timing without an upgraded FMIC? Almost all of the more aggressive JB logs I see look on the lean side, but with DI I guess it's not as big a deal.

All I am saying is that prolonged pulls with 19psi regardless of what RPMS is not ideal for stockers if your looking for running with them without having to replace them sooner. I understand the logs look okay but like OP stated its a one time thing so its shouldnt be an issue. I guess I am more on the conservative side...I dont have money to waste on changing turbos..C'mon Ben why you going there with the tune.

I'm saying without catless dps, that is causing a lot of bp even if the logs don't show it.

Well thats another issue to why prolonged pulls at 19 psi is not a good thing if your looking for not having to replace the stockers especially when you dont have the supporting mods to run that high...

Valid points, esp. without a FMIC or any sort of exhaust modifications, those turbos are going to get red hot. But the actual log numbers look more or less OK to me. For comparison to OP i'm FBO minus downpipes and my car targets and hits roughly 17psi midrange that tapers down to the high 11s up top. It seems perfectly safe to me, but I wouldn't push it harder than that without going fully catless.

Psh I put more miles on my car in 3 months than you did in five years. Your turbos aren't going bad anytime soon.

You're arguing its not safe and I am saying other tunes including yours run a similar boost curve.

Actually the logs do show something, his spool response SUCKS on stock dps.

Touche, but we're talking in terms of inefficiency and negative effects, not crappy spool response from the restriction.

Imo running a single 3rd gear pull to redline on that setup isn't going to harm anything because the car isnt sustaining that massive backpressure for a significant length of time. Doing a 0-160mph run on that setup will make his car quite unhappy though.

^thank you Myst.

You guys and your "feelings"
Go hug a woman with your feelings. This is a car. Its math. Smh

Been running 19.5 psi steady for almost 20k miles fbo with no fail and no meth.

Turbos are still perfect,no smoke, not even a hint of shaft play in any direction

-Anyway
Even if the turbos were being ran out of their efficiency range its not causing harm to them only performance which still Isnt happening as long as the boost tampers in high rpm

19psi midrange could equate to around 14 psi redline as far as rpm.

Not really. 14 psi at redline is out of efficiency for these stock turbos.
