335d 2nd Svc & Loaner Report

First loaner pics then text.

The loaner as shown was a 2013 X1 xDrive35i. I was not expecting to be impressed, but I enjoyed driving it a lot. Won't comment on the quality of the interior as I am not a real judge of that. The wheels looked a bit cheap up close. The engine was sweet; that inline 6 gasser is fun. Good visibility 360 I thought. I would need to tweak the suspension some, but it was not too bad. Crummy mileage for sure compared to the D. Had the 6-Speed Steptronic, which surprised me. Although I wouldn't buy one as I have no need to spend this kind of money for a small SUV, it was a rather fun car. I like the front parking sensor and the rear camera functionality.

Now to the 2nd service @ 25K miles and 16 months. Just to report the items they did for me that were out of the ordinary. They replaced the fuel filter and the air filter ("silencer"). I wasn't aware that either were on the 2nd service schedule, at least the fuel filter. They also did a courtesy inspection for the upcoming HPDE. They liked all the suspension mods I had done. Not unusual wear on the tires. They replaced the squealing AC belt. And supposedly topped up the DEF; time will tell on that.

Oh, and I saw one of those new Model S (or is it 8) Teslas on the road in Balto. Very nice looking at a glance.

No surprise. Short of the last year for the 135is, the X1 is the closest thing to our e90, since its the e90 chassis that it is based on. Even the dash, steering wheel, and instruments resemble the e90 and not the F30. I know, its supposedly based on the 1 series but that was based on a shortened e90 3 series platform.

I can spot at least three of them every day. More Model S, less Prius on the road people!

I really enjoyed X1 loaner, which I had for 1.5 months. I had the X28, but that thing pulled strong to 131mph speed limiter.

Would never buy only because it's too small for my needs.

Couldn't either. Still wouldn't recommend that car to anyone.

I've had fun with loaners over the last year. The most fun was a Z4. I put the top down and had a blast! Reminded me of the days in HS when I drove a 76 280Z.
