Time to start looking for a new car

Well I believe the time has come to part with my 335i. The reason is simply milage(87k) and reliability. I have had the car for a year and half and I do love the car. It's had jb4, dci, and downpipes since week one. But i have had so much work done already (a/c, turbos, OFG, hpfp, injectors, water pump) just to name a few. But what finally did it was having the car down last week for the#6 coil and injector. And getting it back and going down a week later (now) with a fried DME. I've been looking at C6 vettes Ls3 this weekend and I think that's what I'm leaning towards. Seeing if any one has any advice on my dilemma. Thanks Derrick.

I'm debating on trading mine too, I have 42k miles on it, I'm still debating on getting extended warranty or just trading it in for a newer car =\

Yes it is very unfortunate cause I do love going to csr meets and the track not seeing a number of 3 series out there but not knowing if I will be able to make it home is a big killer for me. I have an extended warranty on the car bUT just the constant fear of another CEL.

I'll take it off your hands for $7,500. Heck, I'll even fly down to get it.

Pretty typical stuff for the N54 but man a fried DME is pretty whack. Also, the timespan its all happened in is nuts. Those early n54's are heartbreakers gl, man you could say you've worked out all the bugs. Probably be solid now after you fix it. So do you know if other people are frying their DME's too? I wonder what's going on there.

Agreed. Don't sell it. Especially after all that work you put into it. Bad string of luck is all...

Room doesn't matter I don't have kids, sure I like driving the C6 around on nice days with the roof off... but the interior isn't very nice, stereo kind of sucks, no usable traction until 70mph, clumsy steering / suspension.

I just personally prefer to be driving a tuned n54 car than that car (I've owned the C6 since new, the E90 was supposed to be a beater / winter car)

Sounds like the car will be good for another 100k, you just replaced everything that goes wrong with the cars.

id say just follow the service schedule, its typical with these engines everything else seems solid.

since you already spent all that money keep the car id say..water pump and hpfp is normal and most people replace the pump close to 50k

You know I didn't think of it like that. Yall have a solid point. I guess it's just the frustration getting to me. We are going to get the car back and see what it's does. And keep looking. If we come across a great deal we will probably move on it.

Is JB4 improper install or short possibly causing fried DME's?

I'm going to have to guess no. My only reason, which I could be wrong is, it has been on there a year and a half with no issues. I'm kinda curious if it had anything to do with being a the dealer a week prior having the injector programmed. Not sure if that could do anything.

Man your luck is pretty bad but you have replaced pretty much every weak point.

I think with regular maintenance you will be pretty trouble free for quite sometime.

time to upgrade to an N52 328i.

just kidding, I agree with others about keeping it....or, at least, don't panic. Sales tax on a new Vette would pay for another run of bad luck with your current car. Then there's that depreciation curve...

We have talked about that. Just with our milage reaching 90k I think it would be best to get a newer car with lower milage. The vettes we are looking at have around 20k. So after talking with the bank today I believe it will be a good move.

We're at the point where we are experts on these cars. We are experts on what goes wrong and how it should get fixed. BMW has issues warranties on the two major failures on the n54 engine. Once these things are taken care of, the engine is masterpiece. The n54 is truly a magical engine with unlimited possibilities. With everything you have done, I say keep it tuned and enjoy it.
