What would be a tool long enough to get to the H7 DRL bulbs? I can't think of any......
OP, what tool did you use to pull out the DRL bulb? I just realized this as I'm working on my car just now.......So I have to put it on hold and go buy something that's long enough to pull the bulb out...... Please chime in TIA

If anyone has any suggestions on how to get the bulb out, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm having this exact same problem ... anyone have a solution yet? Yess Yess, i have not tried the pass side yet/ becauze I can not get the driver one out !! HOW DO U GET THE DRIVER ONE OUT?

I used needle nose pliers and grabbed one of the two electric connector prongs; pulling straight back. I had to use a fair amount of force not only clamping down on the prong but also pulling straight back in the small confined space. Definitely not that simple or easy.

With the bulb holder/connector (electrical connection bit) still attached to the bulb, jiggle the bulb from side to side if the "straight push upwards" on the connector does not work. It will dislodge the bulb. I have changed the bulbs a couple of times by now. Changed from the original Philips long life to vision plus and again to osram night breaker and then again to the slightly brighter Osram 65W H7. It takes me approximately 5 min on each side. No you do not have to remove the tyre. Just work thro´ the window under the wheel arch.

I have to say that I have had 20 to 30 cars. I have never seen a car with a light like this. Never anything this difficult. Lets say you can fit in the wheel well with the wheel removed, and you can grab the bulb because the black thing fell off. How is it possible to gain enough leverage to remove the bulb?
I know I saw someone say 5 min, and no need to remove the tire. I find that impossible to believe. I could replace all the lamps in my last car in the time it takes to remove the wheel and the plastic well. Thank you for the DIY too bad that I am this frustrated from trying it. |

This can be accomplished with coding now. No need to mess with your car's wiring and risk shorts, error codes, etc. I changed my DRLs from high beams to AEs. (that coding is only possible with cars that have the FRM2 or FRM3 modules. Which is usually 04/07 and later build dates)

Did anyone open there manual and read about how to change you bulbs?
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE WHEEL OFF!! BMW says: turn your car on and turn the wheel in for each side (you do this twice) Then you get down there and remove the plastic window in front of the wheel on the well. Then there is a second cap, then the plug, then unlock the bulb and your done! BAM easy access. I had to replace a headlight on Friday and it took me 10 minutes in the BMW Weatherford Parking Lot. The service department was closed on black friday... To get leverage? BMW's own manual says you don't need excessive force you just got to find how it the bulb locks (which is shown in your manual) BTW I did the bulb with only touch. Its impossible to squeeze your head in there. |

I did the passenger side no problem, I found it easy by grabbing the bottom prong not the top
