Blackberry Bold
Hi all,
Anyone have this phone? I am getting one as an upgrade from Vodafone, though I am not a business user, I thought that having email access on the go may help and the 3.5 output jack would be good for connecting to the car's aux input. No other phone out there other than the i-phone, but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of the change of provider. For £40/m I am getting 700mins 250sms, unlimited landline calls, internet and email access. I am forgoing my stop the clock tarrif though with the upgrade, but as I am mostly calling landlines I guess it will be no different. Though now paying £5 more a month. Anyway, not sure if this is a good deal, or to go for Iphone, I need to decide so i can send the blackberry back and cancel voda (been with them for 4 yrs or so and have a second line too) and port to O2. All suggestions welcome on handset and tarrifs for £35-£40. |

i just got my bold today and my friend got an i-phone.
In terms of functions, the i-phone is leaps and bounds ahead of the bold. Its very impressive, especially the number of add-on applications you can download. It is also quite easy to use. I never liked the touch screen interface, but the new bold's buttons are quite small so arent the easiest to use anyway. my bold is under corporate plan, but if i needed to use my own cash i would go for the i-phone. |

I am having similar dilemma about changing phone. Blackberry Bold vs iphone vs google phone or (and more likely) the new Nokia E71 which seems to have had some good reviews.
I am also on vodafone and can't believe how much they screw me - I have been with them for 12 years and have only recently found out the tariffs they offer other people (like yours hmi1750). Get ready for a laugh - i get 125 mins a month and pay for the £6 extras pack and it works out at about £32 a month!! What a novice....... So this time I'm going in all guns blazing demanding significantly better package and demanding a free upgrade to a decent phone or I'm off! Only concern about the E71 is that I have fat thumbs.....and the buttons are really little...... |

my friend has the nokia, it lacks 3.5 output or i would prefer that. Think I will send back the blackberry bold and get something completely different..
The only reason I was with Voda was reception and Stop the clock, but now I don't have the later and O2 is just as good.. so maybe just pay a bit more and get a decent phone/mp3 player I can use in the car. |

I've had my bold for 3 weeks now and I love it. The media player, browser, email, gps all work really well. I wouldn't rush to swap it for an iphone if one was offered.

I have just got hold of mine... all I can say, WOW! I love it... just getting used to the keyboard, no more stupid spelling and tapping buttons over and over.
The free Voda Sat Nav (a suprise to me) is pretty damn good for my needs, and free for 18months (the length of my contract). Set up a new windows messenger acc to use on it, but I reckon I may invest a simiple software that will take multiple accounts and use less battery. Just got to order a 8GB card and car charger/holder for it and I'm good to go for Sat Nav and mp3 in car (no more wasted CDs). The screen is fantastic, would be cool if it was touch screen as well, but the resolution is amazing, very very clear and superb for a movie on the train or when can't be bothered with laptop. |

I only find the browsing could be better. The wheel takes a while to move across the screen, even though I have font 8 and set the speed to 90%.
Any other tips for speeding up the browsing? |

it does what I need it to do some much more efficiently than the iPhone then again Vodafone do pay for my phone and line rental as I work for them :-)
Sends me emails 24x7, can stay in touch with all my mates on BBM and most crucially it just works. I've got a 16gb iPhone 3G just sat on my desk, hardly use the thing anymore, my other main phone which is for personal use is an 8800 Arte from Nokia, yet again it does exactly what I need it to do, calls texts and looking good when I'm taking other peoples numbers :-p anyway thats my 2cents |

My old nokia n95 has the 3.5mm jack. Get the 8gig and you should get a discount on your plan or wait for the N96.
I have the googlemail app. I think you can get a push email app so it acts like a Blackberry, but i'm not a slave to my email........honest |
