Absolutely true. Email ALL the dealers in your area. I live outside of Chicago so there are a few to choose from. In big cities you might want to try dealers a little farther out as they probably don't get all the folks who don't care what they pay. Sure, a couple grand wouldn't kill me, but I'd still rather spend it on something else than hand it to a greedy dealership.

On the 335i, I found some dealers that wouldn't budge below MSRP, while others would go well lower. Find two that will bid against one another and you can get a nice deal on a 335i (or any car for that matter). Far easier than negotiating at a salespersons desk. I've bought my last 4 cars this way.

Make sure you clearly spell out what you want. Despite doing so, I had one dealer back off a quote that they gave me by email when I showed up to value my trade (03 330ci).

I paid $2265 under MSRP for a 335i, signed the deal last Wednesday and it is already in status 150 (production started) today!

Anyone order a 328i Coupe yet, all i'm seeing are 335i's being ordered, now one likes the 328i's?? haha

I ask because i just took a test drive of a 328i today, and i'm thinking about ordering one, was wondering what others paid for it.

Also, to e-mail dealeres to get quotes from them, how SPECIFIC do you have to be?? Also do you have to tell them that your trading in your current car? because there are multiple dealerships here, and i think that this kind of tactic would really help me out..BTW do they ask for proof if you say that dealer A gave me this quote, so if you can give me a better one i will be able to do business with you?

I am looking to buy a 328xi

This will be my first BMW. I will be buying early to mid summer for cash. How much off MSRP do you think I might get on a car that has been out for half a year. Also will I have to get a interface for my Ipod so I can see the Artist and Song title on stereo. I will be getting the HK upgrade without the Navi. I have bought 4 cars by email, each time putting two dealers up against one another. They have never asked for proof of a deal - I think they generally know what a legitimate bottom line price would be.

Be very clear on what you want - list every option and the price (msrp and invoice) of each. You can get that info from any of the car websites (edmunds, kbb, etc...) Even then, I have had a dealer change their mind.

On only one of those deals (my forthcoming 335i) I traded a vehicle, and I did not tell them that I was doing that until I had the price of the 335 negotiated. Generally all car buying guides would tell you to do the same - negotiate each price separately. Yes, only the difference really matters, but you should have a clear idea of what you want to pay for a new car, and what your trade is worth before negotiating. No dealer will give you a price on your trade without looking at it first hand. Do some research - check what a similar car sells for on dealer lots (the Internet makes this real easy to do), and expect them to make some money off your car (and spend some to fix it up too).

Oh, and splurge for the 335i... the engine upgrade is by far the most worthwhile option on the 3 series coupes! Drive it and you'll see what I and just about everyone else here knows!

one more thing... you might need to contact a bunch of dealers in order to find two that will deal. Send the same generic email to a bunch of dealers in your area and see who bites.

Thanks Kevkaz! really helped out alot, i only have about 4 dealerships near here so lets see what they have to say. The one nearest and also the one that i went to for a test drive, is by far the best dealership that i've dealt with. Although i'm not sure how it is now, but we bought a car from them abour 3 years ago, and it was the most fun and enjoying car buying process ever. They're service was good, and the price was even better (this was of course they're VW section of the dealership).. But ill e-mail the dealerships and see which one bites as you said haha

First of all I would like to thank everyone who puts input on these pages.
I was ready to order my ED 335i ZPP ZSP comfort access, heated seats, steptronic, paddle shifters at MSRP. However after reading the threads I realized that I can negotiate.
I started by looking up my 5 closest dealerships, I live in Indiana so I put in a radius of 250 miles.
Made day trips to each one of them, prior to going I always called, talked to a salesman/woman and introduced myself, explained my situation and asked them to have a quote ready.
The first one was real nice after 20 minutes on the phone he offered 700 off ED MSRP.
Then I drove to the second, dropped off the wife at local mall and went in and talked. He said he would call later and boom 1000 Off ( I mentioned I already had 700 off)
The third offered 800 off, and the last my local dealer, I went in and explained my situation, after being told that ED prices are "set" I mentioned the discounts I got, and imagine! 1500 off
I put a downpayment and we agreed, next week will put in the formal order, I had to leave to work.

Conclusion, you can get 1500 Off ED

what I did is I talked to the first one, 100 miles away about 20 minutes on the phone and asked him to see what he can do and so on and so forth. When I got a discount from him then I called the others and said this is what I got I am ready to drive down and talk about this. You have to be ready to spend time on the phone and if need be to drive down to the dealership and show your face and of course be ready to put a downpayment

Reading the thread you are right, I could have saved maybe an extra 1000 USD (am I worng?)

I would have liked more of a discount but this seemed fair so I went for it.
March is the soonest I can go to Munich and pick it up, I wish I could go earlier!

My lease payment will be 610$ / month for 36 months.

Cash due at signing = 4300$
Includes=
2500$ down payment
610$ First month's payment
1200$ is for licensing and other expenses
No security deposit.

Residual is 61% and money factor is .00275 for 36 months.

Money factor will drop for .00015 if i place 650$ security deposit.Also in case of placing multiple security deposits you can lower your money factor, however the rest of them wont lower money factor as much as initial security deposit.

650$ = 0.00015
650 + 650x6 = 4550 = 0.00015 + ( 6 x .00003 or 0.00004)


so most likely i will place single security deposit and my payment will lower to about 600$/month.

Now, here is how we calculate a lease. First off, you need to have several
things: the MSRP (or sticker price), the selling price (Capitalized Cost), the
residual value (as a percentage) and the money factor.


Let's use the GTI 1.8T as an example. Adding in the 17" wheels, luxury and
leather packages, it will have an MSRP of $22,000. The residual value for a
36-month lease (with 15K miles/year) is 57%. Usually a 12K mile/year lease
will have a residual value 2% higher (or 59% in this case). The money factor
for 36 months is .00250. Now that we have our figures, we can calculate the
lease. This may seem complicated, but take it step by step and it is quite
easy.


First we calculate the lease cost. Take the MSRP ($22,000) and multiply it by
the residual value (59%). This gives us $12,980. Now, take the Capitalized
Cost (what you pay for the car) and subtract the residual value from it. Let's
say we pay $21,500 for this car. $21,500 - $12,980 = $8520. Now, we take that
$8520 and divide it by the lease term of 36 months. $8520 / 36 = $236.67.


If you didn't have to pay any interest, this is what your monthly payment
would be . Unfortunately, few banks lend money without charging interest . To
figure out the monthly interest you take the sales price ($21,500) and add it
to the residual value ($12,980) and multiply it by the money factor (.0025).
$21,500 + $12,980 = $34,480. $34,480 * .0025 = $86.20. So, you are paying
$86.20/month in interest. You add that to the monthly lease cost of $236.67
and you end up with a monthly payment of $322.87. But wait, there's more. Your
state needs to collect their part of the deal in the form of sales tax. If
your sales tax is 8.25%, you would multiply the monthly payment by 1.0825 for
a grand total of $349.51. This is your monthly payment

Since flush01 explained it. I will explain more about security deposit.

Security Deposit

A fee that is usually about the same amount, or a little more, than your monthly payment. It will be refunded to you at lease-end, less any disposition, mileage, or damage charges. If you have a good credit rating you may not have to make a security deposit. The leasing company determines this. Making a security deposit is not the same as a down payment, which you don't get back at the end of your lease.


well security deposits are good so you can lower your monthly payments.

it is more like a saving account. you deposit and withdraw in the end of lease term. In my case I can save up to 10$ a month by placing one time payment of 650$. basic math 10$x36= 360$ .

So by paying security deposit(even if I have good credit score) I can save 360$ over 3 years.

what happens if you total the car ? they apply this security deposit to the new lease or give it to you if you decide to go somewhere else ?

Well i Will ask that to my insurance agency. If insurance company covers the damage or replace your car than you shouldn't worry about it. I will update you once i know more about it. At this point i know that you can place up to 7 times of security deposit. which is worthless to do more than 2 or 3 times of it. But i believe single security deposit is a must.
