What noise is this?
Hi, my car has this sound that I think it's not normal
It doesn't happen often, I brought the car to the dealer and they couldn't replicate it. I find the noise more audible under the car and close to the front wheels, it's less audible standing in front of the car. It sounds like metal knocking Anyways, here are 2 videos.. Hopefully someone knows what the problem might be. |

..the infamous e90 lifter tick. mine seems to be more prominent when the oil level drops to about 5/8 to 1/2 level. i added just enough oil to bring it up to 3/4 and the tick goes away....or you can try to have your heads replace under warranty. that's if the tick is always present and doesn't go away after the engine warms up.

I'm 80% positive that is NOT the exhaust lifters ticking. The exhaust lifters make a more of a tapping sound.
BTW, you CAN get the head replaced if the ticking goes away after longer drives.....the TSB specifies this as one of the symptoms. I got mine replaced and the ticking did go away after longer drives....after the oil got up to operating temps and thinned out allowing it to circulate into the lifter area. |

"the noise goes away when i disengage the clutch"
His problem is his flywheel, pressure plate assembly. Something is wrong with it. I can't say exactly what but on my e36 M3 I have LWT flywheel /w M5 clutch, and it makes pretty much same noise and stops when clutch is pressed.
