List of 328i Mods... worth it?
So I'm about to run out of warranty on my 07 328i coupe. I want to mod it to 'hold me over' for a couple of years until the next gen coupes come out. The list of wants is:
BMW Performance Intake BMW Performance Exhaust BMS Power Box BMW Shorty shifter (maybe) I've read all sorts of threads and reviews on these and they all seem mostly positive. Coming previously from the Mustang world, the prices of the intake and exhaust is ludicrous, but if it keeps me from spending $50k on a new one for a couple of years, probably worth it. Thoughts? |

Who are we to argue a mans want list if he WANTS to spend then $$$ on the performance intake then by all means let him...but i agree k&n and charcoal delete for me too...So here lets make mr. 1999 a list to make it simple for the noob,
Exhaust- Muffler delete, Magnaflow, BMW PE, MMW CSv1 or v2 could also be a consideration. Intake- K&N + Charcoal delete, BMW PI, Or dont worry about intake since there are no gains to be had on this car anyways. Tune- AA...done Wheels- I would get a good looking set of 19's, Prob some set of VMR 710s or some csl reps. Just something clean Springs- Since you seem to be on bmw's nuts you can get the BMW performance suspension, or just be cheap and civilized and get the H&R Sports which everyone seems to enjoy. ...and last but not least tint the windows! There your done...with all of the above ive mentioned you have modded your car nicely and haven't ruined it like some ppl on this forum. That should all be enough to get you by long enough for a new car. |

I would remove the "maybe" in front of the short shifter. It's cheap: $80 for just the leaver. I wasn't a big fan of the knob. Personally I think it should have come with that shifter stock. Keep an eye out in the marketplace as several people there sell PE. I've seen two in the bay area shortly avter I bought mine new. I would have saved myself a few hundred dollars.
The Performance Intake has a VERY subtle change in sound in the cabin. There's actually quite a noticeable change outside the car at full throttle.

I have all except the power box and I love them.
Yes the BMW performance parts are a little pricey but if you get them from tischer they're a little cheaper. I was quite happy with the PE PI and the short shift kit for 2 years. I just got my car flashed with the AA tune and am sooooo happy worth every penny. |
