Switch down to 16" RFT?

These past 2 days, I am using a loaner 323i while my 325i is being serviced. I noticed that the ride is more comfortable; checked and find that it is using Bridgestone Potenza RFT with 16" alloy instead of 17" Continental that I have got on my car.

Just contemplating whether I should switch down from 225/45 R17 to 225/50 R16 or even to 205/55 R16. I am really quite keen to get more comfortable ride even at the expense of some performance/handling.

Anyone with spare 16" wheels and/or RFT tyres that they would like to sell off? I might go for it if I can get them at a good price.

Tintin - I am not sure if I will like the look of 16". I guess it depends on the design.

Yes, I think going with go-flats is an option to get back comfort. But because of no spare wheel well in e9x (hate not being given the option), you have to deal with having mobility kit.

They are for sure, much more comfortable to ride on.

The 16's just look sooo small. Why not go for some 17's or 18's with regular tyres?

The run flats to me are a bit of a waste... Get a puncture, and get them replaced, versus getting a puncture in a regular tyre, and having it repaired!

I have 17's on my e92, RFT's were terrible. Changed to non RFT Yokohama
v103 after spiking one of the RFT's when they were half worn. This meant replacing at least 2 RFT's to keep some balance but better to do all 4.
Time to ditch the runflats.
The ride, comfort and handling is so much better on the non RFT's.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Honestly, I am having second thoughts about going down to 16". They kinda look small for the car.

I think I will put this on hold for a while. When it is time to put on some new tyres, I will have to decide go with non-RFT or 16".

viruse90, bmwmpower, thanks for your responses. Sorry, it is no go at this time. It is good to know that they are available second hand.

I went from 17" RFT to 19" normal tyres and the ride is so much more comfortable on the 19's. Ditch the RFT.

Wow, really that much diff. that it can compensate going from 17" to 19". Hmnn, non-RTF seems to be the way to go. Need to research a bit more.

What do you guys carry in the boot for emergency puncture? What kit is available? Need a jack?

I have the BMW mobility kit which cost about $125 and I'm about to get a jack kit just in case.

Yep .... that much difference. The car would previously crash over potholes and tramline and now dont have such problems.

I had a puncture a little while back (a screw straight through my tyre), and drove it only like a couple of hundred meters, then the light came on warning me, so I pulled over and checked it, fat as...

When I went to have it repaired, they said it was unrepairable even from driving a few hundred meters cos I had shredded the inside wall of the tyre completely out (we have bad roads round here...), so in the future, if i feel it going wobly again, I am just going to call a tow Seeing as a space saver isn't exactly BBK friendly LOL

Space saver?
Doesn't the vert have a full sized spare?
I know my coupe does... i guess, either way it probably wouldn't fit over the brembos..

No it has a space saver, probably something to do with the weight or space in the boot...

But yes regardless, even a regular stock wheel will not fit over the brakes...
