Anyway, now that we can go back to the OP without interruption from a now banned oxygen thief, what about the vid?

As usual, another great one from Harris, and I've got to say I thought the Volvo looked good, very mean, but understated in a sleeper fashion, which seems to be something Volvo have done well over the yrs.

200k though,seriously!

I'd spend 125k less and buy the Merc, yes the Volvo trounced the Merc on the rolling drag race, but I bet the race would have had a completely different outcome had it been from a standing start.
The Volvo only comes to life at 3-3500rpm,the Merc would have been so far ahead of the Volvo by the time it came alive that the race would have been won easily by the Merc.

Merc wins,I'm 125k up,so two weeks in Bora Bora,a C63 with a soundtrack like no other, and a M3 to feck around with,so much win

Regardless of the stats (which are impressive but not staggering) - these cars will sell.

If they'd made 500 it would have been much trickier of course, when you consider that the purchase price is almost Aventador territory and would buy either of a nice house outright or close to 3 F10 M5s. Heh.

Of course I get it mate, but it's a Volvo, not a TVR or Noble. Who arguably could get away with a crazy price..

Volvo doing this is like Vauxhall doing it..

For a limited run of 6 cars, then fine. £200k it is. Imagine if they sorted out a more considerable production run of say 1000, 2000, 5000 cars worldwide. Then, the cost comes tumbling down to "sensible" levels.

Would I have one over an M3 or a C63. I'd need to drive one to find out. However, a 500bhp small saloon with a proper manual gearbox has a huge appeal. Especially for those of us who like driving and dislike pulling paddles to change gear.

In short, if the price point was the same as BMW or Mercedes, it'd be a strong contender in my eyes.

I'm with you Matt once more - traditionalist (oi, who shouted "behind the times" from the back!!!). Certainly worthy of consideration as something different but reckon a manual M3 would be a better package.

Volvo really need to be doing something like this at a mass level if they want to be where they once were in the market place. Otherwise they are just going to be fighting it out in the mid level with Vauxhall, Ford etc who are being absolutely humped for sales by the rapidly improving, cheaper and more reliable Korean brands.

I can always remember the V90R. The Police had them and they were a properly feared car. For the past, god knows how long they have just been making very beige cars with beige engines playing safe and it has ruined them.

In saying all this. Although Harris explained the purpose of this car and why it costs so much I still don't get it. Produce some proper numbers and make it competitively priced to see if it sells. Making a handful at a ridiculous price will prove nothing about how keen the market is to accept something like this from Volvo.
