BMW Warranty Q's - E92 330i

Chaps,

Just picked up my E92 330i M Sport and enjoying it very much. After looking at all the issues with the N53, I've looked at the BMW Warranty which actually looks pretty good value for money. I do have a couple of questions though;

1. Are the injectors and coils covered or do they class them as 'wear and tear consumbles'?
2. The excess. I see its per claim, but what does that entail? Is that from start of 'issue' to resolution, or per visit to the garage? (i.e. I'm happy to take a larger excess, but not if I am paying it for every visit to the dealership to rectify something like a misfire which may take several visits)

The car is currently on 52k, so longing to take advantage of the decent pricing structure before it rolls over to 60k.

Thanks

Technically you're right, but if it's part of a bigger job/fault finding, they are included (at least in my experience).

I've had 2 or 3 sets of plugs/coils replaced under warranty, this was due to HPFP issues, so it was included.

I think the OP would be best advised not to make any assumptions that he may also get lucky like you did though, to be fair.

Expect the worst and then perhaps be pleasantly surprised.

I've had a couple of coils replaced which weren't part of another issue.

Does it not say in the policy book what is and isn't covered.

Checking the details, it does specifically exclude Injectors/Glow Plugs.

Coils don't seem to be too expensive however which is positive.

I have the bmw comprehensive cover, last year i had injector & coils changed which was covered under the warranty but had to pay for the spark plugs separately as this was only item they declared wear & tear. Not sure if their terms have changed but this was true in May 2014.

Injectors and coils have both been the subject of a BMW recall on the N53 engine. Make sure your car's had this done...

I had the lifter ticking problem with my 325i
I had to pay the excess twice for essentially the same problem. First they replaced the lifters and a few weeks later replaced cylinder head for updated version.
I would still definitely recommend the Warrenty as it saved me a fortune

Well even with the higher excess, a new cylinder head for £250 is not to be sniffed at!

I have a 2007 325 (N53), is there any way I check if I would have qualified for a particular recall?

Thanks.

Yes. Visit your nearest BMW dealer and hand them your key. They will plug it into a device which will tell them which recalls and service updates your car's been subject to, which have been executed and which are outstanding.

Many thanks Phil. Will that be a FOC check? And will they happily carry this out for a 2007 car?

Yes to both. The device will be on the service receptionist's desk - it takes seconds to do.

Thanks. Will pay a visit to my local Synter at the weekend.

What recalls is a 2007 N53 likely to have had? I assume you and I have the same engine (car)?

Which type of BMW warranty offers the best value ? Comp, Named component, Driveline and BMW Emergency service.

Just had alook online and the "driveline" cover seems to be quite decent for the money. My E92 320d is on 56k so i'm thinking about a warranty to have peace of mind if something did go wrong haha

I went with the fully comprehensive in the end. My reckoning being that anything ECU/electrical related could effectively kill the car and at great expense.

I'm currently on 53k, so I'll review as it approaches 60k as required.
