As of now, I'm planning on taking 4', 3', and 2' sections of 2x10, cutting the ends with a skill saw at a 45 degree angle, then screwing them together. im also thinking about drilling two holes into the floor of my garage, pressing in some barrel anchors, and lag bolting the ramps in place when I'm using them. I'm thinking that should give me more than enough access to do the 'under the car' work that I usually do, and I certainly don't worry about 6 inches of 2x10 lumber ever collapsing with me under the car.

Call me a p***y, but jack stands and jacks are the reasons why I don't do underbody car repairs. I had a real bad experience with my E36, which while I was jacking it up, snapped the factory jack. I wasn't underneath the car, but I vividly recall that day. I promised to myself that until I have a lift, someone else can do that job for me.

Very confident working under my car with two jack stand and jack to just seat the front. I believe the jack or jack stand claimed is not seated properly or worned out. Sucks to hear such bad news. Rip

My whole problem with this, is the fact that I can almost guarentee that the person who wrote this, has never used a jack or jack stands themselves, and must be ignorant. I do not see how a jack STAND could collapse, especially if there is two placed in the proper locations.

A JACK on the other hand, my shitty little hydraulic jack sucks, and I wouldn't do so much as to put my foot under the car until I have stands underneath.

I use jack-Stands all the time, I guess I'll add extras before crawling underneath.

I read another report on the same person who died, it also reported the Stand failed-->JACK-STAND FAILED

I wouldn't use that type of jack stand. There was a heartbreaking story posted years ago by a father who lost a son to these kind of stands. The son had two stands in place and a tire/wheel under the car. He accidentally hit one of the handles on the stand causing it to release.

I would only use the stand types with the locking pins. I don't see how they can fail, and accidentally kicking/elbowing one of them won't cause them to release the mechanism.

My jack stands are old, but have the locking pins on them, which I allways use before sliding underneath my cars. I recently bought high quality hydraulic jacks, which I also leave under the car central jacking points. Double insurance ....

I put my ramps underneath the tires if i have it on jackstands. I also keep the jacks there as a third insurance. Can never be too careful.

i have a jack that has locking pin so even if hydraulic system gives, the pins block the jack from collapsing....even still i wouln't get under there without jackstands or wheels underneath to block car from crushing me
