When I made my purchase I was reluctant to opt for the insurance for tires and wheels. One flat and a big pot hole and it's paid for itself.

With my second MINI, I found a stick of rebar with my driver's side. SIDE.... both tires, at the same time. Drove to the dealership and got them replaced. No money, thanks to the insurance. Yep, on my 335 as well... (and the free tires.)

I forget how much it was, maybe $400? For 3 years at Passport when I bought the car. It's mostly peace of mind for me, I haven't had any problems with the RFTs yet, knock on wood. If you you can find some cheaper deals.

Shouldn't when you get a flat replace the opposite tire as well (granted some mileage/wear issues in that determination)? And on some cars you have to replace all 4 tires (an expensive lesson I learned the hard way). And insurance will only cover the 1 damaged tire?

I confronted the finance manager about that when she offered the insurance to me and she acquiesced that I was correct about usually having to replace 2 tires (only 1 being covered). I can see the insurance for wheel damage though.

It is also important to note that the wheel itself is only covered under the policy if it is damaged due to the tire becoming flat, or else...I personally didn't opt for it but if the coverage on the wheels were more extensive i probably would have.

I didn't get it when I got my e90. They told me at Fairfax that they really push it for people who have the sport package. They say they see more tire and wheel damage with very-low-profile tires. Makes sense, actually.

$400 sounds about right, as I recall. I would have probably sprung for it if I had gotten zsp, which of course I now wish I had.

FYI, just another thought that maybe folks overlook, another less costly alternative to dealers tire/wheel insurance are Tire chains insurance that will run you only about $100 per set. NTB and other local tire shop offers them, even if you didnt buy tires from them. NTB offered tire insurance to me when I bought my e90 and the RFT tires that was on them, it covers flats, road hazards, but pro-rates the remaining thread left for new tire replacements

... now for wheel damage, your reg car insurance covers that, juz make sure your deductable is zero or lower than a new set of OEM wheels
