I'm wanting to get a good big brake kit, for a good price, (i.e. watching local ads, etc). I'm not very educated about brakes, so how will I know what brakes fit and won't? Is there a matrix of sizes/codes/brands/ etc? Can anyone help educate me on this? Thank you!

Big brake kits will usually only be available from specialty/aftermarket performance shops. you can call them or go to the website and look up applications pertaining to your specific vehicle.

What I'm trying to say, is someone on here for example bought corvette brakes that will fit their three, and are selling them. How do I know when I buy brakes that they will fit my car?

If they are not made for BMW, they probably won't fit. If they fit, it is bare luck, as not only they have to fit rims, offset, but also bolting pattern on the carrier, which change for pretty much every manufacturer.

you can make just about any caliper fit with a custom bracket. That's how the big brake companies do it (after they figure out what size rotors and calipers to use). some may also require an aftermarket brake line to fit the caliper properly.
basically, if someone put corvette or porsche calipers on their BMW, they had to get a custom bracket made to make it fit. |

Stick with dedicated aftermarket kits or use the best OEM solution you can find. Realistically, upgraded brakes are a waste for 99.9% of street-driven modern cars. Unless the car sees a racetrack or really, really aggressive road driving, the stock binders will suit.
