Courtesy car....

I've booked the car in for some warranty work on a wing mirror that's got a mind of it's own, I bought the car in Blackburn but my nearest dealers are in Chester or Liverpool so booked in with Liverpool.
I'll need a courtesy car but they are wanting £15 per day for Insurance (Chester want the same), now it's not the £15 I'm whinging about, it's the principle. Why should I fork out £15 for something on a car I've had a month that's faulty and is covered under warranty!?
Is it because I'm taking it to a different dealer from where I purchased or what?
Say they had 3 courtesy cars all out every day-that's not a bad turn over!

Anyone blagged themselves a free courtesy car? Blagged not really the right word-it should be gratis!

"Blag" this via your own personal car insurance. My Insurer Directline would cover courtesy cars for no extra charge everytime they where asked. My dealer would make the call to my insurer to ask for this service.

Sytner normally charge £10 per day, but sometimes they let you off!

Been in this situation many times and totally agree with you, why should we have to pay to insure a car we only have because there is a fault with the car they sold us. Had it lots of times even with the dealer I bought the car off. Usually I make a big issue, force them to insure the car which often they then mysteriously can do or make them pay the insurers admin fee. Yes its only a small amount but its the principle as you say.

If they completely refuse to play ball then just make sure you use at least £15 of their fuel.

The irony of all of this

I have exactly the same problem, my wing mirror to has a mind of its own so it’s booked in for 5th of May (I think)

I most certainly will not be paying the fee per day, Id argue the toss with them and see how you get on. You’re quite right, it’s not the money it’s the principle. Stick to your guns.

I didn't 'blag' anything myself, I simply told them to charge BMW the £15 per day as it wasn't my fault that their product required warranty work - a few sour faces later and they agreed to not charge it - all 12 days worth!

they want every last penny off people.......

Ha mine's in on the 6th! Hope it plays up when they have it as it is intermittent (although more often than not).

Just going to ring BMW UK now and tell them how disgusted I am with their dealers for incurring this insurance charge. It probably won't achieve anything but I'm sick to death of these companies making money for nothing for pathetic little rules.

When I had AUC warranty work, my dealer (Knights North Staffs) Service Department agreed to invoice the Used Sales department for the cover, but only after I kicked up a fuss.

That's probably of no help to you, except that the dealers can find a way of providing a service to their customers, but they don't appear to feel obliged.

Think is 15 pounds one-off, not per day.

Indeed they are. Think they are one of the biggest motor retailers (not just BMW) in UK/Europe.

They are taking the mickey.

If its service work etc., then its fair to pay the £15 a day.

If its warranty work - why should you pay? I have never paid for a courtesy car when it is for warranty work. Recently that included delivering the courtesy car 70 miles to pick up my car & then return it - all at no cost for 3 days - and they even delivered my car back with a full tank! Good service.

As for it for free, or take it elsewhere. Alternatively, get Blackburn to send over a courtesy car and pick up and fix your faulty 1 month old AUC!!!!

The dealer I bought my car from, Bowker Preston waivers the £15 charge every time I have been in for warranty work, in fact they have never asked me for the charge so I therefore have never had to kick up a fuss.

BMW Rochdale on the other hand are as tight as a knats ass and wouldn't budge when I asked them for a free courtesy car despite taking the car in four times for warranty related items over a two month period. In fairness I probably wasn't tough enough and didn't push the matter but they did have a driver drop me off home.....

Well to summarise the problem.

"Sir, you car needs a type of grease being brough in from Germany tomorrow, its a special type of grease made especially for this issue."

Garage List
Only just caught up with this thread but I've never paid for a courtesy car. The charge is for their insurance according to my local dealer; I just get my own insurer to cover the courtesy car for free and the dealer are happy (they just ask which insurer it is).

Now, this has been for warranty work predominantly so not sure about servicing - as they state it's for 'insurance' I don't see a problem.

Hope you guys managed to get it for free.

My guy has said they used to allow people to use their own insurance but it was causing to many problems so now it's not an option.

My car is only going in for the one day so I have arranged for them to collect and return. I'll save my fight for another day.

I've never had this with my previous cars... citroen, Honda, Seat... You'd think with Bimmer this would be free.

But I suppose they do charge for every extra when you spec a new car, so paying for things just becomes part of the BMW experience!

wow reading the op i thought i had written it.. it would seem this crazy mirror syndrome is not just me!

the £15 is a one off btw, not per day that's crazy.. mine is on the 13th for this exact reason (and some others), and i am not expecting to get it back the same day.

will be sure to kick up a fuss as it is 100% warranty work being looked at.

cheers!
