A 2nd Hand Question
So what make people sell a BMW 335i/d with less than 5k on the clock in under 4 months. there are so many on the market its quite scary. any thoughts on this?

I bought an ex demonstrator, for 10k less than its original price, after 5 months.
Some people buy a car because its the latest version, then get bored and move on, some (like us) buy because of ability of the package |

Don't think there are *that* many (particularly e90 335i) otherwise I would've been inclined to buy second hand. They are more than likely ex demos. I believe 5k or 6 months is about how long the dealers keep them.

I noticed a few coupes for sale when I last went to my dealer
Some are prob ex demo. Some are from people who want a new car every few months. Some are prob from people who got carried away & couldn't afford it.

Could be a chage of financial circumstances,
Loss of job. House move. Pregnancy. Divorce! etc...

I think there are a few answers to this question.
The dealers pre register some cars to keep their sales numbers up. We were offered a 335d M Sport with a very good spec (about £42K worth), that had been registered by the dealer. We didn't take it up as we wanted a different colour/trim combo. The dealers have demonstrators on which there are financial incentives to run the car for a minimum of three months. These cars are often advertised as "VAT Qualifying". There are also "Staff Cars" available which have been registered privately but are driven by BMW employees or spouses of. We have bought two of these in the past, they are allways low mileage, in immaculate condion and around six months old. The normal giveaway is the fitment of a fire extinguisher which is a requirement of the deal. Regards Chris

But at least the sound of the engine makes you realise you are going quick!

You can get away with redlining 1st (35 mph) and 2nd gears (67mph) on the road - but you MUST FIGHT THE URGE to redline in 3rd .... (105 mph is getting a bit naughty). I never thought I would be changing into 2nd gear at 50mph .... but it's worth it. |
