What car? 335i (Touring?)

Well I finally sold the car. Guy got a hell of a deal but then I've always had a bad habit of losing shed loads on cars. So now I'm looking for a new car. Problem is, I don't really know what to get.

I've been told by the boss I have to get something that can take the family (4 of us) for trips 'every so often', so that rules out the Z4 coupe/S2000/350zs I was looking at originally.

I'm considering going back to a 335i as it really was the best all round car I've owned (bought from SteveHoops and still miss that car, shouldn't have sold it really). Problem is I've promised to not spend more than 10-11k as we have lots to invest in this year. I would LOVE a 335i touring as I think the touring looks great, and love the idea of a crazy fast estate. But i'd be happy with a coupe/saloon. But then, being responsible, I should probably just get a 320d until next year when I can wangle more budget out of her.

So thoughts, and suggestions, and if anyone has something they are considering selling let me know. I'm a picky git so please don't take offence if I don't like your car, but I am a 'motivated buyer' as I'm currently renting from Avis so can buy immediately.

Thanks,
Paul

Theres a nice looking black on black SE touring on AT for sale right now, 10990.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...27jz?logcode=p

It has a nice spec and it's a manual. I was tempted to go and buy it myself to be honest; If you want to buy a 2010 E90 for about twice as much let me know and I will take the touring!!

Yea I did see that one - it just doesn't have any decent options to it, which after the experience I've just had (where everyone keeps asking if it had heated seats) puts me off.

But does look good.

I'm put off the 330i a bit. I had an e46 330i and didn't find it particularly good at anything. It was OK at everything but consumption was pretty dire for the power it had. Maybe the more modern car would be better and I'm not giving it a fair whack...

I'm starting to sway towards a cheaper Golf GTi or even tuned up Cooper S. Purely as they are so much cheaper - it would certainly be the more grown up thing to do

Don't dismiss the difference the engine can make. The E46 330i had 230bhp and was ok, the E9x 330 (pre-LCI) is 260bhp and feels like a completely different car. This engine (the N52) has good torque from low down but loves to rev and sing.

It won't be as quick as a 335i, but you might be surprised at how enjoyable a good, old-fashioned, naturally aspirated six can be...

Yea true - should probably try one out before ruling it out. Just the look of the MPG online didn't seem to be particularly good, and seemed to be a complaint.

I live on south coast and barely use my heated seats

In the midlands it was a different matter to be fair

I don't often either when I have had them, but seems to be such a requested feature and one most people coming 'up' to BMW seem to request/expect. Just makes it that little bit harder to sell.
