Does your OBC MPG constantly change and update?
Just wondering how yours works as it seems like mine stops updating after x period of time resulting in me having to reset it to get an updated reading.

Do you get what 'average' means and why it will change quicker after a reset and slow down the more miles you put on it? |

gIzzE, keep your hat on, ill explain a little more.
The OBC for example displayed 32MPG after say 20 miles of town driving. I then drove from Birmingham to Leicester, cruise control set at 70 and whilst the MPG gauge on the dash showed closer to 50MPG, the OBC didn’t budge for the whole journey... Just thought it would have improved the average, albeit just a little. |

Sorry, didn't mean it come across like that.
After 20 miles of city driving at an average of around 30mpg you will only see that rise by about 2mpg by the time you get to Leicester if you sit at say 80mph. And where in Leicester, did you come off the m69 and just hit Fosse Park? Or did you go into town and hit all the lights on the Humberstone road? If you did that then the slight gain you got on the motorway would soon be lost. Next time reset the obc has you hit 80 on the motorway and see what it says after 20 miles. When lived in the city my 320d averaged 33.8, when I moved out and had a 1 mile trip to the motorway it shot up to 39mpg average. Whe we got our second shop umat the coast which meant loads of 80 mile trips at 50-60mph it the went to 46mpg. Hopefully that is a bit less of a smarmy answer? Sorry. |

Yep, it takes a lot of miles to get a better average once a good few miles are logged into the data.
One thing that makes it worse in a BMW, is the conversion is only calculaed at 0.1 litre increments, so as we note, we don't get say; 30.1, 30.2 30.3 mpg, etc. Therefore we need a bigger mpg change before we get an update. Often lost in mixed driving, or over long averages. Cars like the VAG range have finer incremental updates, at 0.1mpg. HighlandPete |

Have you unlocked it by pressing the unlock button twice in succession then opening the door?
Thats handy in a tight parking spot

Hi m1bjr,
Yes, found out about this by mistake and works a treat. I was wondering why sometimes the windows go halfway down when i open the doors so jumped straight on to my number one point for info...e90post...I found the answer in minutes. I sometimes put the windows fully down to stop passengers using the glass to shut the door. I hate fingerprints. Especially on a Black car... |
