Question to those that imported their vehicles from the US
A while back, I read something around the fact that someone in BC had their US car reprogrammed so the odo and all electronics would be in km instead of miles.
Is this true? Can BMW dealerships do this? Is this part of the 500$ extortion? If it is true, would this apply to temperature aswell (changing from F to C)? BTW, I searched and didn't find, so that's why I'm posting. Rod |

You cannot change the face dial of the speedometer and the oil temperature gauge by programming.

^ do you know what they are charging?
There is a place here in Edmonton that my company used to use about 5 years ago when we were sending cars by the truckload down to the US and we had all the IP's changed before they went down. I think we only paid about $300 a vehicle back then. (Those were mostly trucks though, so way cheaper I imagine) |

I was advised by a friend in Calgary who's imported several BMWs that it's not a good idea to change the speedometer face, since apparently it affects the warranty. Not sure if that's correct or not.

Yep, you can reset it on your own. The point I was making was simply that there might be warranty issues from switching out the instrument panel itself. And as you say it is basically unnecessary since the US speedometers do show KMs, albeit in smaller characters.
