tires good for potholes?

Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a set of new tires after I ran over a pothole last night and a bubble formed on one of my front tires. This is the second time it's happened this year.. I currently have a set of Michelin PSS and I'm in the market for something that won't get damaged as quickly if I drive over another pothole.

Any recommendations? I'd want something with similar performances, cheaper (if possible.. i'm getting poor replacing tires like crazy). Thanks!

I've found that Continental ExtremeContact DW or DWS tires are good for this since they have a relatively softer sidewall than other performance tires.

Hit a pothole on stock Potenza run-flats and the tire popped right on the bead.

But yeah, avoid the potholes.

If potholes are that much of a problem, you should get the warranty from Discount Tire or any other tire shop that offers the same.

I have run Nittos and Vredesteins and haven't had a problem with potholes, "knock on wood".

We have not found that any one particular tire or brand of tires are more resistant to pothole damage.

You will not find a tire that is marketed as being better at holding up against potholes. What I can suggest though is pay attention to the construction of the tire, load index, etc.

When I shop for tires I generally check to see if they have reinforced sidewalls.

Curious...are you running 18s or 19s. I stayed with 18s but then again a big pothole will ruin any tire.
