this may be a weird case and i'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this. i'm hoping it's a common problem and not just mine.

whenever i get a car wash or it rains, i understand that rolling the windows up and down will obviously squeegee the water from the window. after a few hours of the car sitting covered or even the next day after it rains, i would assume that if i roll the windows down then up, there shouldn't be water streaks showing up when i roll the windows back up. on every other car i've driven this is usually the case. after a few hours of the car being dry, the window shouldn't show water streaks if i roll them down for a second and roll them back up. it actually ends up leaving water stains on the windows too.

has anyone else seen this and is this a common thing on our cars?

Same here. Always on the driver side door. I hadn't really thought about it, but now that you brought it up, that does seem strange.

This happens on my car now (335i) and my previous (530i). No idea why either really bugs me because like you said after getting a car wash I would like to be able to roll my window down after the car is completely dry.

Have the same problem...

Had the same problem on my 2008 Audi TT. On my 2007 Audi A3, no problem. Both Audi and BMW told me it's completely normal...but I don't recall having any cars that are like this. Mine needs only to stay closed for a few hours after a wash and things are fine after that. It is annoying though after a car wash and you have to open/want to open your windows knowing they are going to get streaky.

I have had the same problem on my 540i until I opened the door panels and sealed the inside panels again. Buy 3m sealant and its one hour job.

It happened to my E92 too. I think they're just like that, and it's still not completely dry even after a day. Despite being annoying, I think it's normal.

On my porsche the problem isn't as bad as the BMW, but it happens too.

which one are you talking about? the tape? or the compound? link? i need to take the panel off at some point to install moleskin.

Those "squeegies" are not meant to squeegie the water away - they are to prevent dirt and such from getting inside the door and fouling up the window and handle mechanisms. There is no FIX for this other than waiting until the car dries out before rolling your windows down.

that may not be what they're meant for...but doesn't everyone agree that that's what they do? so even after a day of the car being dry (and it could be more than 24 hours), if i roll the windows down then up, i should expect to see water marks on the windows because the rubber sealant has dried yet? and these water marks should leave stains on my window? didn't think rubber could retain water like that.

the concern was more the fact that even after a day of being dry, why would the windows still get wet. obviously if it just rained and i did this and i expected it to be dry, i'd be expecting a miracle. i think even after 8 hours of sitting in a garage while i'm at work should be plenty of time for wherever this water is hiding to dry out. obviously the window isn't wet after 8 hours right. and neither is the rubber right?

happens on my car too, hate it, because once u open the car on coupes, the window rolls down about an inch then creeps back up once you close the door, leaves a damn line along the edge

No. You're expecting them to do something they aren't meant to do, so chances are they will fail.

Really depends. How long does it take a puddle to dry? If your car is in a garage, and it's cold and a damp out, then no, any water that found it's way down there will not have dried up.

Dunno - maybe you have a super extra big puddle in there. Have the dealer take the door apart - or ask for new "squeegies" (I don't know what they're called, but we both know what you're talking about.

it happens on my 335 also. But on my dads sequoia the water actually got into the door and you could hear the water sloshing around when you opened or closed the door. He took it to the dealership and they fixed it not really sure what they did but ill ask.

Definitely happens to my car after a wash but usually gone after an hour or two. Still wet a day later seems kind of strange.
