So Im a little frustrated, tried to lease a Qashqai twice now with no joy, first time around the 'deals' on the internet were actually different to the 'price' when all is said and done, and the second time around when Id agreed a price I'm told that there aren't actually vehicles available in the spec I want - I was only told this Friday, car's supposed to be with us 1st week of March.

So Ive kind of lost interest in that route.

Ive been fancying a 4x4 type for a while, and buying without lease/finance would be quicker and easier, and a friend already agreed to buy the Clio of us, so Id like to keep that sale going along.

Id want something big that I could get everything in, ie pushcair, car seat, shopping, golf clubs - so then when I go to see the Folks for the weekend we can take everything with us with ease and have a bit of space left over!
Im not really a fan of the MPV types, I only went for the Quashqai because I like the look of them and their cheap to lease.

£12k(ish) budget, not a fan of the X5, so that doesn't get a look in.

I'd go for the Merc personally - my father in law has one and it is really refined and much better then the model it replaced (he had that also).

Decent fuel economy, big boot (no 7 seat option) and pretty grunty with that engine

q5 s line with a twin turbo 309bhp diesel engine

otherwise any normal car does the same job

or wait for the new RR sport

xc 90 too agricultural engine very old now

freelander 2 overpriced

Friend of mine about to sell his Rangey....its a petrol but its lovely and considerably less money than that one.....

I believe the OP did mention the budget is around 12k so SQ5 and New RRS are out of question.

We are looking for a 4x4 ouselves which can easily sit 7 adults with around same sort of budget and the search has narrowed down to Land Cruiser Amazon because of its sheer size.

Newish ones are quite dear but you can pick a 9-10 year old for around 12-13k and afaik 4.7litre V8 is the model to go for and then it can be converted into lpg.

Even though for that budget it will be a high mileage car but they are most reliable then all the above mentioned 4x4s.

How much can you get a used QQ+2 for?? You mention your attempted orders of one (normal QQ?) so why not just source one on the approved used Nissan website. It'll be a much newer car to those you've posted & well appointed if you choose a higher range model.

The RR for me. Everyone I know that's owned one has said they absolutely loved it and ended up keeping it way longer than they had originally planned.

I think you also need to take in consideration the maintenance costs for these cars. I'd imagine the Volvo being the cheaper of the 4 and the RR being quite expensive, if they went wrong!

RR gearboxes are made of jelly and v expensive to fix. I agree with Roger, approved used higher spec QQ

Yeah a range rover of this age is going to be bit of a money pit and don't expect it to get much more than 25mpg! It's a far bit bigger than a Quasqui though!

From what I've heard XC90's aren't great either!

As said earlier might be worth a look at Toyota Landcruisers (I'd stick with diesel) as they're pretty bullet proof! Think that's where my money would go ( though might be tempted to risk the RangeRover, there's just something about them!)

Just had a little nosey, plenty around, also get the choice of opting for a 2wd version (less weight, same high-up driving position, same space, more economical) which is what we've got. 09/59 plates, up to 30k miles, or if you don't need the extra space a standard QQ would be newer as less expensive initially. I've only driven the standard QQ once and though it was a better drive and the +2. I wouldn't discount a used X3, cracking car, though fewer fans looks-wise or to keep Chrisbin happy, a Tourag

What sort of mileage are you doing in it. If a low mileage get a big petrol - the values are comparitively low but they are so much better the diesel counterparts. Many can be LPG converted too.

V8 touaregs are silly cheap and very well engineered. Also I'm shocked you aren't considering discovery 3s - the best 4x4 on sale.

I wasnt really a huge fan of the QQ, it was only that we needed something bigger, and the leasing deals were 'supposedly' very good, £200 a month which to me seems like awesome value to me, regardless of wether I liked it or not.
what have you got? the standard or the +2

not even thought about X3 to be fair - are they worth considering?

might do 10k miles in a year, it will only be what the other half uses during the day/week (shes on maternity leave) and where ever we go at the weekend - which is where the space thing comes in

I overlooked the Disco, but was having a browse last night and I think Id prefer one of those to a RR now.

Our X3 was an absolute belter, 3.0d M Sport, and would have it back again tomorrow. Being honest, a 2.0d diesel would have sufficed, and be warned about the rock-hard suspension on an M Sport riding 19's. A well appointed 2.0d SE would have been perfect but I was a sucker for the larger engine (nice if you're happy with the extra fuel bills which weren't high anyway) and the M Sport body-kit on 19's .

That Rangie for £7.5k does look amazing value but think I'd be too nervous about future maintenance costs.

Oh, we've got the QQ+2 1.6tdi Tekna (12 plate), would prefer an X5 personally but it'll do for now

I also had a 3.0d M Sport X3 and thought it was a great vehicle. Only had it 9 months as got tempted by an X5 which was by far a superior vehicle. Replaced it with a new model X5 which is an even better vehicle.

Problem about X3 is that for your budget you are looking at the older model and given the "new" model has been out a few years the old one is starting to look pretty dated.
