It may be difficult to get a room at this point. I was on the waiting list for Seneca Lodge (where the F1 teams stayed in the 1970s!), but they called me yesterday so I now have a room.
SplinterZ88 has a room too. I'm sure we can work something out so no worries.

this is a clear example of "driver > car." I don't even know if any n54 guys have broken those yet. keep up the good work.

don't mean to downplay the driver effect but weight, weight, weight... You can do a lot more with less weight. Besides, you can probably fit Dan's car in a e90/e92 trunk, no need for a trailer

PS. And I'll bring you a jack stand (you can keep it) next time we meet on the track, your brake changing pic made me cringe

Thanks man. Next time I'll lend you my HLT again and hopefully you'll get some clean laps. Although I'm pretty sure there are plenty of n54 guys in the sub 1:20 mark, just maybe none from our group this past weekend...

Agreed on weight being a factor but I'll take the other side of that equation and throw in power. From a power to weight standpoint, both cars are pretty similar in factory form. Without driver, my coupe weighs 3150lbs and stock n52 is rated 255hp crank, so power to weight ratio is 0.082 hp/lb or 12.2lb/hp.

Not sure what a stock 335i weighs but if I had to guess, a non-xi MT coupe probably comes in at 3600lbs. Taking the 300hp crank figure, that's about the same 0.083 hp/lb or 12.0lb/hp. Throw in a tune and the numbers slide more in your favor. =)

Regardless, I'd be surprised if Peter wasn't throwing down 1.18's easy

Haha, I had a jack stand at the front center jack point (you can't see on the pic), and the rim under the driver's side kick plate. AND I had a 2.5 ton 70-80 lb STEEL jack; I def learned it from what happened to you last time!

Not easy remember I'm on stock shocks/springs and no camber plates. Call it a financial decision that costs me a few secs per lap, I'm not investing any more money on this car as I'm trying to move on (up?).

1:20-1:21 average, occasional dip in the teens. Never on an empty course, I get my best times chasing faster cars (GTR, GT3s usually).

Funny thing is, there's more to power/weight ratios, where extra power is not always usable but less weight is. For example, my suspension is the limiting factor at the moment and I find myself reducing power throughout the day to get better lap times. I'd trade power for weight under these circumstances

Is that the rim you were trying to sell me???

It happened again by the way...chicken & egg problem, trying to lift the car with a jack to put it on jack stands and the jack fails at that point. So I found that the el-cheepo aluminum HarborFreight jacks bend (yes, bend) if you leave them out in the sun on the paddock. No such issue with the 2.5-3ton ones but the one I have is in the 120lb range and rather difficult to lug around.

not load-bearing, just in case. And no, I still have the other set at home. I think I'm just gonna put some regular tires on and use it.

I weighed my car at the track on Sunday morning. I'm at 3,200lbs. without me in the car (so I dropped almost 200lbs off my car). I have an AA tune, Dinan CAI, throttle body and exhaust. VAC said I should be in the 280hp range from their chasis dyno.
I still can't come close to a tuned 335 on the straights. They just pull away quickly!
For some reason, when I really pushed my car downshifting into 3rd between 4 and 5 and also for the lightbulb, my car would lose power as the session went on. Almost like heatsoak. Weird anyway!

Aside from wheels and calipers, how else did you shed 200lbs??

Glad to hear you are going to Watkins Glen. I will be there as well and look forward to hanging out for a bit again. My first time there. Should be a lot of fun.

Carbon fiber hood and trunk as well. Sparco Milano 2 seats aren't anywhere near as light as race shells. I only saved 30lbs total over my stock sport seats when I had all the mounting brakets installed. If I were to go race buckets, I could cut another 50lbs or so.
Exhaust saved about 20lbs too. Braile 21lb battery saved another 20lbs.

Mind PM'ng me how much you paid for parts & labor? Reason I ask is because there's a carbon roof available for my car but installing looks like a major pita, specifically removing the headliner and reinstalling.

I agree, I tend to zone out thinking of the lines on lightning - and how to sneak some upgrades in...
