I wouldn't think you'd need to go to any special BMW shop, although I suppose it wouldn't hurt. Just avoid mom and pop shops that have little to no experience with our cars, I had my wheels put on and a 4 wheel alignment done at Pfefferle Tire in Fairfield, nothing fancy, and they did a great job. As far as specialty shops go though, I haven't heard much either positive or negative about Elsen's Autohaus or Enthusiast Auto (as far as service goes, anyways).

On a side note, I really don't know what to believe, but when I had my 4 wheel alignment done, one of the techs told me that in order to do a proper alignment on a BMW it's necessary to have 3 people in the car, I thought he was crazy, but everyone there was under the impression that it's true. Anyone else heard this or is it just bs?

Just to throw my $.02 in - I bought my car from Enthusiast Auto and they were pretty cool about it. I don't know about service, but my buddy gets all of the work done to his E46 there. they do performance stuff too. They're a shop first and auto dealer 2nd. Think the owners name is Eric and his brothers name is Evan. they may co own it, cool guys. their website is www.enthusiastauto.com

Don't get springs if you're wanting to do it "RIGHT." Coilovers are the way to go...infinitely height adjustable for the perfect stance, you can adjust the firmness, and the springs are matched correctly for the dampers. You get springs and I promise you that within a year you'll be buying yourself some new struts.

The car is to be preloaded with weights on the seats and in the trunk. But, the new BMW system at the dealers does not require this. It takes some extra readings such as ride height at each corner and adjusts the alignment targets based on each individual car from base settings. Many alignment systems have settings for preloaded or not. Keep in mind that the final reading can be different between the two ways to do it, but is almost the same. Also, most alignment shops can not calibrate the steering sensor, stability settings, or active cruise control with lane departure warning systems.

Thanks for the info, David. They had me climb up on the lift with two other guys and then we sat awkwardly in silence inside the car for a few minutes. I'm not too concerned about the speedo, it was off before, it's still off by +3, but when I put my winter wheels back on it's the same deal.

Never. The Ohio Bimmer guys get together from time to time for hangouts/bbqs but I don't think the next one is until July 31st. There's tons of ricer meets, but who wants to go look at a bunch of $1K cars?

Anyone know of any legitimate meets/gtg's?

Yeah I have been looking for some too but there's never any big meets. Here in Dayton people gather up on Friday at this k mart, once in awhile you get to see some decent cars.

You talking about on Indian Ripple next to Waffle House across from The Green?...I noticed that while hitting Rita's Custard with the wife and twin daughter's a couple weeks back....Seemed like a pretty eclectic group of cars- 70's muscle to full on ricer.

OB.c has two big events coming up in the next month & a half.

1. Saturday, July 31st - Official Summer Meet/Picnic

2. Saturday, August 14th - OhioBimmers Road Rally

I'm just promoting these events, won't even be able to make it to the Summer Meet, but I'll try to make a legit posting in the appropriate section of the site.

Loving that car to death so far.
