Lightbulb 2007 E90 335i

Here is what I know. I went to my BMW dealer about two weeks ago. The guy told me that BMW were canceling the 325i and 335i. He stated that they would be replaced by 328i and 335i. The 328i will basically be a rebadged 330i. The 335i will be turbo charged in some form, whether it be sequencial turbos or just one. He said that the prices will be affected by about $1000-$2000 on each model. They weren't sure. He said that they will be out in fall '06. They will be taking orders about June or July. I read somewhere on this forum that one dealer was taking $1000 dollar deposits. So, I will try to place an order with my local dealer and tell you if I was successful. I also want to say that I think that it is very unfair to current owners of 325i's and 330i's that BMW is making them obsolete after one year. However, they do need more performance to compete with the vehicles that are currently available ( IS350, C-350, etc). Ihope that this clears up some uncertainties. Please fee free to object, I want to hear other opinions and information.

Obsolete cars? My car is not even here yet and it is obsolete. Man your glass is half empty. I will drive my obsolete car for 8-10 years, then I may get a new one, but I hardly agree that any car in obsolete after 1 year. I have been watching the Barrett Jackson car auctions, and they are selling some real nice obsolete car. You seem to be more concerned with your badge rather the car itself. I think you should wait for a 2008, or 9 or 10 or 11….

It will kill the resale value of the 325i and 330i. That is what I mean, not that the cars are deamed useless. I love the E90, not 325i or 335i, the E90. The car is spectacular, but I would not knowingly by a car that will not exist and devalue this fall. NO OFFENCE MEANT.

Personally I am not a fan of turbos, so I consider myself better off with a 330. Of course, word on the street is the US will not get a turbo 3-Series.

No offence taken. You are correct the e 90 seems to be a great car. Just drive it because you love it! The value of your car will be less tomorrow then it is today. As far as the value, it is going to cost me a lot of money to drive this thing. I hope it is worth it.

For some reason i dont believe this thread. I will talk to my salesman and have him call Munich on Monday. Considering the 325 was there best seller (more bang for the buck) I would find it hard to see them canceling it after 1 year in this body style

Order is in...

I have placed a deposit, $5K for a MY07 E90, I guess I will know in another few months if I'm getting a 330xI or a 328xI.

Just relaying what I was told by my dealer. He said turbo, but he was unsure of engine size for the 335i

I chuckle every time I read someone talking about the new 335. I will believe it when I see it officially from BMW and not a moment sooner.

Not true

Let me tell you why this is not true.
As a BMW fan since I can remember my mother's name, I know for a fact that BMWs don't work with turbos and they never will. They are know for their amazing performance without adding any superchargers or turbos (unlike mercedes and just like ferrari!)
Also I doubt the name of it will be 328 since they are trying to standarize the badge so that it fits en series number and the engine size number.

I'm not doubting that some changes may happen for MY 2007, but I am certain that if the current 330 becomes a 328 (same hp) the car will be offered with fewer standard features.

I agree with parachute. I have never seen a turbo BMW before and not sure they want to introduce it in the new 3 series. If for some reason they did, I certainly wouldn't purchase one until 2 or more years passed. I wouldn't want to be the first batch to test out a turbo!

I'm sorry, they do work with turbos.

Also, they are obviously not "trying to standarize the badge so that it fits en series number and the engine size number" as all e90 325i's have a 3.0 engine.

Research.

Umum... sorry to let you guys know BMW has tons of experience on turbo 30 years ago. One all-time product is 2002 turbo.

http://www.bmw2002.co.uk/turbo.htm

I do believe BMW will introduce 335i in the near future, especially when the 400 hp+ E90 M3 comes out. Since there is a large gap between 330i and new M3.

But why turbo? If they still want to use I6 in 335i, the engine will be too long and messup the perfect weight disturbution. E90 M3 should be fine since V8 will be used.

Just personal thinking, no offence

i don't see how that is a lot of experience when they only had one model.
I think bmw is the best specially beacuse it can reach amazing performance levels without the implementation of turbos. (Imagine if you did add an aftermarket turbo kit to your car the the things it could do, it would be a freaking jet plane)

That's just the most popular model. The 745i comes to mind too. Let's not forget the BMW Benetton F1 pushing 1000+hp out of a 4-banger. BMW actually knows turbos well.

So whats it going to be here in the States...325i and 330i or 328i and 335i? So this means the 255hp 330i is now the lower model and 335i will take over? What are some quick negatives of a turbo engine?

Turbo lag if boost doesnt spool up fast enough. More wear on the engine; working harder.
