Safe way to remove dealership paint?
Would like to remove the obnoxious free dealership advertising they plastered on the back of my car. I'd keep it there if I were pleased with their service, but ANYway...
How do I remove branding paint from my car? Keep in mind...
Looking for a safe way to remove it without discoloring the underlying base paint. I read some things about Goof Off. Anyone have ideas? |

you could try megguiers liquid wax, it should remove most of it.
you are not going to damage the paint unless you go under the clear coat. I've use goof off on my bumper in the past to remove excess glue ( when I did my splitter install) , no issues with the paint there and it did the job. You could always mix it with water to dilute the goof off Worst case scenario you could wet sand it , there are tons of tutorials on youtube, but this would be my last resource if above does not work |

If you recently bought this car, take it back to the dealership and have them remove it.
If they refuse, I would simply ask for a paycheck for them advertising their business on your property. Might work, might not... but worth a shot. I would be pissed if some half baked dealership did that to any car, even a 1989 honda civic with rusted fenders, no one should be 'spray painting' anything on a car like that. ... if it really is spray paint, and its done crappy, you might be able to use some paint thinner on a rag to get it off, then buff and wax the area.

I would doubt it has been painted on. That's way too much work for a dealership. Most likely it is some sort of decal, possibly very thin, so it appears to be paint.
Take a heat gun to it. This won't hurt the paint at all. See if you can get a corner to lift a bit. Use a plastic stick, spoon, or fishing line to try and peel it back. If it truly is paint (and I really doubt it is), you're pretty much screwed at getting it off easily. Goof off will remove adhesive, but not paint. You'll need to take it to someone to sand it off and respray the area.

Absolutely true that !! You are not supposed to endorse their brand for free !! My dealer was very genuine and I could sense that while dealing with him. There is just a tiny little sticker on Car's bumper on the back left side and I am just procrastinating removing it
I'd go back to the dealer and ask them to remove their advertisement. (actually I'd have done that before handing them over the check) If it is still not late, I'd suggest you not to spend a single penny on removing it. |

if its really 'n' truly spray paint
razor blade and a very very VERY steady hand to get most of it then wet sand 2k grit -->3k grit the tiny spots left down to the underlying clear coat compound polish seal

I've never seen them painted on; but there are plenty of things I've never seen.
Try scraping it with your fingernail and see what happens. If it's fresh, GooGone might take it off.

Seriously! Go back to the dealership and ask them to remove it. I've purchased a couple cars that had some sort of dealership advertising affixed to them and always had them removed while I waited. One car in particular had a pinstripe along each side that I requested to be removed and it was taken off promptly. |

I’m a professional automotive painter.. here is what I’d try.
Clay bar. Lacquer thinner on a rag. (It may dull clear.. I doubt it will.) if it does.. Compound on a rotary or forced rotation polisher will bring I back and make it shine. Meguires m100 works really well. Will cut and clean up as a polish really well. Lastly... if needed. Wetsand. I’d use 1500 first. (Only because I have experience with it) Then to 3000. Back to buffing with a compound. |

So guess what did it?
My fingernail. Just had to lightly scrape the nonsense off. All I have to do is clean it off with soap and water now. Simplicity apparently works sometimes. Appreciate the replies. Will store the ideas for future use! |
