Who's interested in SS Headers?
I've been trying to convince VAC to come out with a SS header for our engines.
VAC has a stellar reputation and has been around for many years, established in 1984. Yes, they are relatively new in the e90post community, but they are embracing it fully and have shown their support since joining. http://www.vacmotorsports.com/ Local thread for their updates: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=593996 These headers would be engineered to the highest standards and they would NOT be released unless there was a performance gain to be had. That is just the type of organization they are. They know about the coated steel header that MMW is coming out with, so they're not sure how many more people would be interested in purchasing headers. Of course, they need to spread out engineering costs over a number of headers so they can actually make money (duh, common business sense). BTW: they're always looking to develop something new if there's a need. Feel free to contact Mike@VAC if you can think of anything. Doesn't mean it will happen, but if there's a need, there's a stronger possibilty. Who's interested in SS headers?

Would these headers be a high flow cat version? I have to e-check my car so i don't know if o2 sims would get me past that.

I would think you would be able to add a high-flow cat to any exhaust. These would get rid of the pre-cats obviously. I'm pretty sure O2 sims are already being produced by another vendor so no problem there.
As for pros/cons - I'm not sure what you mean. Cost - Obviously they'd like to keep the cost down or no one will buy them. Right now the only SS headers available are from Supersprint and they cost a fortune.

Ill give you some pros and cons...
Pros Easy 10-15rwhp with simple bolt on Zero harm to engine or components Better exhaust tone Cons Will not pass emissions Illegal due to removal of primary catalytic converters (Even if you move them to after the headers it is still illegal federally, and in many states. They are only allowed to be replaced in the stock locations) Exhaust smell (some dont care) OBD II cars will require o2 simulators to not throw error codes If I hadn't have already purchased a set of MMW headers I would be down for this. |

That's what I thought about emissions. So the question is what would the cost end up being, $$$/hp? Or is it better to decrease weight to gain the same performance with lower cost? I am sure somebody considered this already. Thanks for the summary. |

I would be interested as well. Out of curiosity, not to jack this thread, but does anyone have any experience with the MXP SS Headers sold by horsepowerfreaks?

I'd be interested based on price. I heard the bms downpipe fix works on our cars too. I'd like quality headers that actually get delivered as promised. Gains should be guaranteed. Dimsum dyno'd 15hp gains from deleting cats on a stock manifold.

Yes, the cons are going to exist with any long-tube header. I personally will most likely put on high-flow cats as I think it may be too loud for me (my wife drives my car too ) As for weight reduction - I've done almost everything I can do to reduce weight already (I'm getting a carbon roof in early April). My car will weigh about 3,215lbs when I'm finished. It costs A LOT of money to reduce weight. $1200 for CF hood (depending on how much you pay for paint) $1200 for CF trunk (depending on how much you pay for paint) $3000 for CF roof (with installation) $1200 for lighter wheels (price depends on what type of wheel you go with) $2500 for lighter seats (including all mounting hardware) $300 for lighter battery $5000 for BBK (yes, even though they are bigger, they are lighter)

You worried about an aftermarket CF roof screwing up your chassis rigidity? I'd be concerned about that.
