Quick question regarding boost pipe
I just got my car back from the dealer, where it was getting CBU cleaning performed under warranty (after the 3rd trip for the same codes). So I ordered the EGR block off plates and will get them installed next week as soon as they arrive. And as soon as the warranty expires I will be doing the rest of the alphabet delete. I plan to go with a BPC 2+ tune and it sounds like I better upgrade the boost pipe also. So I have been spending hours researching this forum and diagrams on realoem.com. Is the "boost pipe" the pipe that runs from the turbo to the intercooler, or the pipe that runs from the outlet side of the intercooler up to the intake manifold?

Haha. So that covers both possibilities. I was thinking you were asking about the "red" boost pipe. If so, I'll stand by my answer. It is item 1 below:
However, I/C to intake manifold pipes (item 12) are now being produced so really, you could upgrade both sides of you wanted to. Edit: fixed autocorrect which changed "pipes" to "puppies" |

Haha ok. Thanks guys. I think the aftermarket ones I have seen for sale look like they are meant to replace the pre-intercooler hose (part #1 in that diagram).

Usually when we say boost hose, we mean item 1 in your diagram. They tend to drip oil and it looks bad and doesn't hold boost like it should. You could just replace items 2 and 3 and you'd be fine, but I believe you have to constantly replace those. A new hose is upgraded to where you don't need to constantly replace seals.

Make damn sure that the hose is all the way into the inlet to the inter cooler after replacing item 3. The hose will get blown out from pressure otherwise. Ask me how I know. It tore up the new seal and I had to run to dealer to get another after buying first one from internet. First picture was what I saw with hose not all the way in after driving. Big smoke screen and SES light happened. Second pic shows the green seal ripped with only 180° of it left. 3rd picture is how I made sure it was all the way in. I pulled IC, put hose in properly, reinstalled IC/hose combo and connected upper side of hose to turbo outlet. Problem solved. EDIT: I added a close up of the properly seated hose. |
