Bit of advice needed....
last night om a quiet dual carraigeway i came past a slow moving audi estate 56 plate doing about 40mph i came past aroudn 90 ish
didnt think much of it. Few miles up the road i saw him coming quite quickly up to me in the outside lane (i was on the inside lane) as he was approaching quickly i put my foot down to stop him accelerating past, got into three figure speeds then backed off, he backed off heavily nipped in behind me and proceeded to flash me with his indicator on trying to pull me over stayed like this for a few miles, even pulled along side me and pointed to pull over? wasnt going to because for all i know he could be a car-jacker or something? he didnt have any flashing lights through the grill didnt flash me a cop badge or anything?? he looked like a normal middle aged chap with his missus. do you think ive been done or was it some middle aged chap pissed off a young lad wouldnt let him come past in a new bmw in the outside lane when i booted it and wanted to give me a piece of his mind??? thanks oh yeah forgot to mention he pulle dpast me in the end and roared off carl

This is what happens when you race on the roads :-p
Seriously though, I suspect he either wanted to: i) Talk about your car ii) Beat you up/have a go iii) Tell you to get out of his way and you misunderstood? I think you'd know if it was a cop - not sure how though as I've never been pulled by a car marked/unmarked. If it was the police I suspect you'd have had a visit by now if they clocked you in 3 figures..... so my guesstimate is (ii) or (iii) above. Call me paranoid but might not be best with 5 digits of your number plate on show and the exact make and model of your car to go round publishing your 3 figure speed exploits....not having a go but just a thought.

No offense but that is what can happen when you are a kiddy that has to race everything. Because that is what it sounds like.
I can understand passing him at 90 (If it WAS an emptyish dual carriageway/Motorway) but the accelerating to stop him passing wasn't called for, was it ? That was just dick-waving. You can be a driving god, but if you need to race everything that moves it is inevitable (only a matter of time) that you will ... Meet the Police, Meet a Gatso, Meet a NUTTER who takes deep umbrage, Meet an accident as others go about their business making decisions when you barrel down on them at over 100mph. If you want to drive about like you need to realise that. You need to learn when it is wise to just lay low, check out the occupant. Experience. You risk losing your license and your health. Either one not nice for your Dad. Use your head, be wise, be wiley - not your hormones. It is still possible to have fun. Hopefully you will have learnt this form your experience. D.

And if you didn't pull over he wouldn't just drive away. Police don't just drive away if you don't pull over. He would have followed you. I wouldn't worry about it. D.

You were definitely right not to stop - since the other driver had no official indication of being a police officer.
As for the old "put the foot down and show 'em who's boss" - I think that everyone has done that at some stage of their travels. I know I have done and do still sometimes. You also need to know when to just let the challenger go on at times as well - and be the bigger man. As Dave3 says, it is inevitable you will get caught/killed if you cant swallow your pride sometimes and let the other driver go on. But sometimes, we need a little scare like this to show us we are not invinsible. Anyway - good luck and enjoy the motor

No offense but that is very poor road manners and what gives BM drivers a bad name, he most likely wanted to give you a punch up the bracket for driving like a twat.
Friend of mine is paralyzed from the neck down after some boy racer twat crashed into him, racing on the roads is for losers. |

If the other guy wasn`t trying to race then the solution is quite simple really, he just carries on driving exactly as he was at the same speed and lets dxb335d dissapear off into the distance. Think about it guys, how many times do you join a motorway and a lorry pulls into lane 2 along side you to let you on, there`s nothing in front of you in either lane so what do you ? Do you slow down and allow the lorry to pass, then overtake the lorry or do you just put your foot down and let the lorry fall in behind you ? |

Second, you'll eventually find somebody (rightly or wrongly, regardless of "who started it") who takes deep umbrage to it and retaliates BADLY/VIOLENTLY or holds a long-lived grudge with no thought of their own safety. Not everyone out there is a rational, nice guy. There are quite simply some absolute nutters out there. Road rage. All for the sake of simply "Showing off". Be fair, it had nothing to do with undertaking slower lorries at slip roads. That wouldn't be misconstrued as trying to race. Dick around "racing" on the roads, don't moan when it goes horribly wrong. Because eventually, it will. I've sadly seen it all too often. Fatally D.

Says it all, if you need to try to justify behavior like that you must do it yourself. Simply allowing the lorry/Audi/anyone to pass would be such a affront to your driving skill/car? |

One of my pet hates is slower vehicles waking up and accelerating briefly to stop a quicker car passing .. it's futile, but in this case I think you also took an unneccessary risk with your license. Sometimes you do find that a fast driver will 'latch on' to another one and travel in convoy. Their is an advantage to this as the car in front provides some advance warning of police up ahead and vice versa. Obviously that's not what happened to you though. If I had to guess I would say he was an off duty police officer and you had a lucky escape. The reason I say this is the indication while flashing. Joe public would just flash, but the police are trained to indicate also to show people that they want you to pull over. The good news is that you CANNOT have been 'done' for a speeding offense. There is no 'gatso' type device that can speed trap you from a moving vehicle. If it was a county car, then they would HAVE to pull you over, show you the video and call you a naughty boy, before issuing your fixed penalty. Moral is ... if you are going quickly and someone is wanting to go MUCH faster, assume they are police and let them by. |
