BMW performance exhaust vs. stock 335is exhaust

Anybody happen to know if there is a difference? I know the "is" has a different exhaust then regular 335's, but is it exactly the same as the accessory performance exhaust?

I ordered my E92 335is 2 months ago and selected the performance exhaust option for port installation. Car is now 4 days away from the port....port calls the dealer and say's the "is" comes with the performance exhaust, no need to install it. I'm thinking no since it's an available accessory on the BMW USA website and was also shown on the order website when I ordered it. The "is" has shadow line tips too, accessory exhaust does not.

I'm in love with the performance exhaust sound.....if my new 335is comes in and doesn't sound the same I'm gonna be PO'd!!

Can anybody confirm they are the exact same exhaust so I can call the port and call them idiots if not?

Besides this little hiccup....I'm waiting for my new baby!! About 10 days and I'm gonna be dual clutchin my rear off

You don't need the performance exhaust. The 335is already has one and it sounds great. Just go to YouTube. There's tons of videos which will let you hear the 335is exhaust. Also, check out the MotorWeek and CNet review of the 335is. Don't waste the money.

Yes, the 335is exhaust sounds great, but the performance one sounds even better... just my opinion.

I'm fairly certain that the 335is exhaust is the performance exhaust that is available for the 335i.

If you look at the other thread...

1. Visually they're different because they have totally different labels.

2. Acoustically they're different because the perf Exhaust is louder.

3.Functionally they're different because the perf exhaust doesn't have the butterfly valve.

conclusion: not the same

+1 they are not the same but you'll still love the IS exhaust note.

I should have probably read the thread before posting. I was under the impression that it was the same but I have been proven wrong. I can sleep tonight.

The IS exhaust sounds better IMO. Very nice growl.

x2.

The BMW Performance Exhaust is a bit too raw and lack mid-range growl.

Depends on which PE you're talking about. The PE exhaust on the N55 sounds far better than it did on the N54. See my video here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=559948

I'd take the N55 + PE over the IS any day of the week. The N54 is a lot more tunable at the moment, though. It's a tough choice.

It's tough to say which sounds better, it's all preference to one's ears. From where you're coming from, you will love the is exhaust note don't even worry about it!

+1, I don't think you can go wrong either way. Even the stock 335i exhaust (N55) sounds really nice (see the beginning of my vid above).

With the flapper disabled they are close, I agree the performance one sounds better, but like $200 better, the difference is not worth the price of admission in my book. The beauty of stock is you can get pretty close with the flapper disabled, but if you don't like the noise or drone, you can put it back, performance exhaust you are out the money and stuck with the noise!

Extremely curious here, what is your justification for saying that the N55 + PE sounds far better? Here are good comparison clips, though from the 135i.

N55 + PE (start at 0:10 to save time)

N54 + PE (start at 0:10 to save time)

The N54 + PE sounds so exotic it puts a chill down my spine. That's not to say the N55 + PE doesn't sound good though, just my personal preference.

I've heard them both side by side. My car next to an N54 with the PE.

If you really love the sound of the PE you will not be satisfied with the 335is stocker. Drove the 'is and was expecting a bit more exhaust note. That said the PE is absolute sex with the windows down next to a wall or highway overpass
