CIC Retrofit on Pre-LCI E90 with Standard Headunit

90% of new wiring has been laid... Coding has be done... Changed the Dashboard... LOADING......

its all done. Few hick ups.... 1- After market GPS antenna does not work or at least not in my case. I tried it as dealer could not find the GPS cable. I have shark fin already sitting at my place. So I need to get OEM GPS cable. 2- Battery drain is immense. I had 3 amps and I could listen to music at moderate level for 30 minutes. With CIC / emulator, its draining 0.1 volt every second and so on till the CIC turns off. Not sure if its the battery / emulator / CIC. Need to work on that. 3- I had manual AC in my car and I could not find BMW fascia for that. I have requested it to BMW UK to find out if they make one. If not, then I may have to find somebody who can use CAD to design it and make a custom fascia. Here is a teaser....(most scary photo)  Thanks.

Well done Sam. This bringing back memories of when I did my CIC retrofit. I actually foind removing the dashboard was easier than doing the wiring.

Sam, I was just about to send you a PM (your PM box is full BTW).
I'm surprised that an aftermarket GPS cable didn't work for you. The BMW cable is nothing more than a standard RG-174 cable with Fakra Type C connectors. I was going to send you a link to a cable on eBay which is similar to the one I used on my wife's Audi. Let me do some digging in ETK and see if I can find a part number for the cable. |

Progress: - CIC fully functional - Aftermarket GPS antenna working - Video in motion working Next Stage: - Bigger capacity AGM bettery installation - Combox retrofitting - $6FL retfrofitting (music directly from ipod / iphone) - Office functions of combox enabled - BMW applications (possibly) - Video from iphone / ipod enabled (possibly) One thing I must say, this is the best retrofit I have ever done, in terms of functionality and appearance.

Well done mate; you do feel a sense of pride after completed this retrofit on a car without iDrive.
I need to get Ian (Alpina527) to upgrade my CIC unit software so I can have BMW Live and Connected Drive working following the installation of the Combox; 6FL and Bluetooth. |
