N52'ers List All Preventative Maintenance/Repairs You've Done So Far
So I would like to see what everyone has done to their cars in terms of preventative maintenance or repairs (if it actually broke down on you).
So here's what you should list -Year/Model/Transmission -How many Miles currently have Current Items Changed -List of everything you've done Items to be done in near future -List anything you have planned in the near future -And if you're bored, list if you DIY and/or used a shop So I'll go -2007 / 328i sedan / 6MT -93k miles (bought it off my dad around 65k miles) Current Items Changed -Valve cover gasket -Oil pan gasket -Oil filter housing gasket -Control arm bushings -Coolant change -Tranny fluid change -Differential fluid change -Spark plugs Item to be done in near future -Water pump -Thermostat -Serpentine belt -Tensioner pulley -Idler pulley -Suspension (coilovers) I have definitely learned how much maintenance these cars require.

I've recently got mine from the dealership back in May.
- 06' E90 330xi 6MT - With 153K (Yeah... I went that for that challenge) (I'm a student looking forward on working everything on it my self). So far I've picked up what needed to be done rite away and took care of it, under a few hundreds miles. Replaced the belt assembly You could hear some slack of the Tensioner with the pulley giving some bearing nose. The belt went worn on the side. Mean while I am there I replace the Oil Filter housing gasket that was also leaking oil on the front top of the engine. (Current Parts Replaced) -Belt (Continental) -Tensioner (INA) including torque bolt (Torque) -Idle Pulley (BMW) -Oil Filter Housing Gasket (BMW) - Bought a specific socket, 1/2in Drive swivel E14 or E10 socket if I'm correct with a long extension. Without that you'll have to remove the intake manifold to reach that one bolt behind the housing. I recommend you do this part to replace first then the belt assembly , or you will have oil and coolant running down your new parts. Future parts I need to replace -Rear Shocks Leaking Rear shocks ( OEM , I don't know if that's the original). Going to replace with more performance made for lowering, Possible Coilover set -Front Struts and Springs The last owner put on lowering springs and not the strut, the short travel give the hard knocks and you already feel some rebound. Need to throw in some rite set up. Like I said coilover or a good set of lowering springs and Shock n Strut made for the curves. - Put on 18' Wheels - Front drive shaft |

07 E92 6MT
Purchased at 85k now at 95k Day after purchase I removed charcoal filter and put a K&N drop in replacement. @87k: Oil change, coolant flush, plug change @94k: bavauto performance coils, clean MAF @95k: camshaft sensor gasket, eccentric gasket, valve cover gasket clean (was ok), oil filter housing gasket, oil change. I use Offset Motowerks in Glendora for things I dont have the skill or space to do myself. Service and pricing is always 10/10 TO DO LIST:Serpentine belt, eyeing cooling stuffs, Brakes (pads and rotors), shocks most likely bilsteins (all 4), Vinyl roof...maybe whole car. I've got some terrible clear coat fade coming in that i've never had on any other vehicle before. Seriously questioning BMW paint quality (monacco blue) FUN GOALS: 330 mani, AA header, AA tune, M3 front and rear control arms |

Maybe the previous owner seriously neglected the car and caused the paint to go bad. Paint on my car (TiAg) is flawless. My dad took great care of it before I bought it and this last summer I had a 2 stage paint correction done on it and it looks like brand new each time I was it.

06 330i, 6mt.
bought at 99,000 miles, currently 112k. I replaced a flat tire, an angel eye bulb, changed the oil twice, and replaced the air filter. I did have the spark plugs, brake fluid, and cabin filter changed before I bought it. Otherwise, that's it. The battery & brakes were done by the PO. 06 325xit 6mt bought at 85,000 miles, currently 100k. changed oil a couple times, spark plugs, water pump/tstat, belt/tensioner, and filters. This one hadn't been maintained as well as the 330i, but other than the expected waterpump failure, it's been pretty solid. I don't think anything else has been changed on the car - original battery, coil packs, etc. Honestly you're probably better off buying a slightly higher mileage car than a mid 50k one, since most of the problem areas & expensive maintenance would have already been taken care of on a car with just over 100k miles. |

currently 148k+ miles, original owner Active Autowerke tune around 75k miles repairs / failures /malfunctions: thermostat, vcg, ofhg, tensioner pully, steptronic shifter wiring, jammed vanos solenoids. wear & tear / maintenance: oil changes per CBS, switched to every 5k miles during vanos solenoid problems diff fluid drain and fill (twice) power steering fluid (once) coolant (once) tranny fluid drain and fill (three times) tranny filter change (once, last weekend) brake fluid (three times) spark plugs (twice) coils (once) battery (once, in year 5) brake pads: rear (twice), front (once) rotors - rear (once), front (once) tranny mounts (once) other: changed water-pump and hoses when changing out bad thermo, at 145k, to save on labor. Old pump had no problems whatsoever. suspension is upgraded, most work done between 90k-110k: dampers, m3 control arms front and rear, dinan springs, bigger front sway, subframe bushing inserts. dealer did the vcg, belt tensioner, starter and oil changes first 50k, indy did thermo, waterpump and hoses, I diy'd the rest future: engine mounts (will probably wait to see if my oil pan gasket leaks, or at 200k) other than that, "surprise me" Last edited by mlifxs; 11-05-2015 at 02:44 PM.. Bought my E91 not too long ago, it had around 76k on the odometer when i bought it. Was in really good condition, interior was kept really clean and there were only minor flaws with the paint. I must also mention that i payed $125 for a PPI.
A service record in the trunk stated that at 55k -the timing tensioner was replaced -along with the oil cover gasket -and the serpentine belt. So far I've done -spark plugs -cabin filter -air filter -engine flush along with oil change I am budgeting for -transmission fluid change -coolant flush -clean MAF -differential fluid change -power steering fluid chnage |

I'm at 29,000 miles and have done the following preventative maintenance: oil and filter changes in between the free oil changes, automatic transmission fluid and filter, differential fluid, brake fluid, and air and cabin filter.
Other wear items I've changed to enhance performance: tires, shocks, and differential bushings. |

Yup that's what I did. Sprayed it a few times and left it out for a while to make sure it had dried before I reinstalled it. Car drives much smoother and throttle response is much better

Thought I'd chime in here.
- 2007 323i 6MT (323's were only sold in Canada & Europe I believe. Got a 2.5L N52) - 130k KMs (80k miles) - Owned it since 2006, was a demo model, only had a about 2k on it at the time Current Items Changed - Minor Upgrades: Exhaust, CF Intake, Blacklines, Black Grills - Swap out Winter & Summer tires every year. I have a hydraulic jack, impact wrench, torque wrench, etc. Makes the job super easy, can do all 4 in under an hour with no help - Oil Changes every 10-15k KMs. I did one myself last year, but without a lift it wasn't really worth my time for the amount of money I saved - Last two oil changes I have run Techron Fuel System cleaner prior to. Definitely would recommend, noticeable difference. Won't clean up all your issues permanently (at least not mine yet, but you do notice a difference within about 200 KMs) - Replaced the front & rear brakes both once each - Still running on the original clutch! (and it's in great shape) - Had to replace a front bank O2 Sensor. Was super expensive at the shop so I bought one & installed myself and saved a lot of money. Not the hardest job in the world, but not the easiest. There is a great DIY on the board - Had a couple Brake Fluid flushes as well - Had to adjust/tighten the Parking Break too - Replaced Headlight Blubs Items to be done in near future - Replace Cabin Air Filter - Replace CF Intake Air Filter - Replace/repair front rear bumpers due to damage - New Tires on my BBS RK (I'm good for a couple years though) - Cut Polish & Wax next summer All in all my car has been great! Knock on wood I've been quite lucky as she's held up well without any major issues. Here's to another 130k KMs!

Informed by the shop the belt tensioner is beginning to fail. Warranty is up 20Jan16 so they're going to replace it while all the other work is being done.
Other than this only standard free maintenance has been done to date. OTOH, everything that could've failed, with the exception of the water pump, has been upgraded so it kinda doesn't matter anymore.
