335d issue
I am having a weird issue where I am getting diesel exhaust coming through the a/c vents. Anyone have this issue or know the cause? Never heard of this and trying to pinpoint the issue. Has anyone had a 335D turbo go bad? I heard they fail FAR less frequently than the gas 335i.

Sounds more like you have exhaust gases passing a seal/gasket and entering your heating system. You won't be able to smell a turbo going faulty. It's more like a gas leak than anything to me

Oooh. Good.
I posted this in the thread you started elsewhere; this is a far better place, not much diesel activity "over there". You may have two problems 1) No air from the engine compartment should make it to the cabin air intake, it should be sealed by the rubber strip that matches the hood. 2) There have been a few instances of the backpressure sensor's pipe kinking; check the pics in #1 and look in your engine compartment for the same one. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=backpressure Part #9: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...87&hg=13&fg=15 |

wow, thank you for the responses! I noticed that when I have the car in neutral and rev the engine with the hood open, there is some black smoke that comes from the passenger side of the engine. is that normal? sorry for my ignorance - 1st diesel.

Don't know what's up with the links. 1) Go to the N57/M57 diesel subforum, search for "backpressure". It's the one with the title "What hose is this?" 2) Go to www.realoem.com. Drill down to your car, then select "13 fuel preparation system", then "13 15 fuel injection system", then " DIESEL PART.FILTER SENS./MOUNTING PARTS". It's #9 You need to learn about realoem.com anyway |

I had the same thing happen last year. Here are all of the parts they threw at it. In the end, they suspected the two gaskets and back pressure pipe caused the whole problem but I got a new DPF and Nox sensors out of it so I was happy. All of my work was done at Thompson BMW in Doylestown, PA if they want to call over to them.

oh ok.. definitely not coming from there.
Has anyone had the gasket between the turbo and the exhaust manifold fail? P/n: 11657802593 I think that is my issue. Freakin' $70 gasket... |

had a small hose towards the back of the motor blow off I guess. It was a short larger diameter rubber hose that was just disconnected blowing black smoke. Reconnected it and the problem was solved.
The seal to the interior (where the cowl meets the engine bay) was not sealed properly. Adjusted that and replaced the microfilter. Good as new! I bought $150 worth of new hoses and gaskets and thankfully didn't need them. Thanks for the help. |
