335i vs Jag XF

I have a friend who owns an Alpine white 335i with coral red interior. He called me up and was like "Dude, I totally smoked a Jaguar XF today" The XF was the non supercharged version. It was the 300hp version.

I was wondering if this statement holds true. Is this good friend of my lying to me? Will the 335 "smoke" a Jaguar XF?

Believe him, the Jag XF non s/c is lethargic at best. It's much heavier than a 3 and a relatively narrow torque band in contrast to that of the 335.

The XF-R will tool an M5 but getting back to the topic, it should be possible for your friend to beat the XF if it was only the naturally aspirated model.

sat at one at Concour d'Elegance, they turned it and it sounds INCREDIBLE! and I think that at $80k its a pretty good value considering a loaded M5 is about $98k

Drove the Superchaged Version on the track at Monticello Motorsports Park. Also drove an XKR. Both drove very well. I liked the XKR better.

This thread made me want to know more about the Jags, so I've been on the net cruising a bit....and I've been looking at the xkr. I really like the way it looks. I'm thinking about shooting down to my local dealer to check it out. Next I'm going to check out a few reviews.

Can you tell me more about your drive in the xkr?

Sorry, off topic I know.

My wife has an XKR and I drive a 335i convertible with sport package and non RFT tires.
Speed and performance wise they are very similar. The XKR may be a bit faster and it also feels a bit heavier. The XKR has a better ride quality, particularly in bad surfaces. The XKR does not suffer form the 335i "Pothole Explosions" issue. The 335i feels a bit more tossable but on a track I suspect the Jag might have a slight edge. With the OEM RFTs the 335i IMO does not drive nearly as well as the XKR unless you are on extremely smooth roads. At one point we had them both in South Florida. In that environment the 335i gave the Jag a run for its money but in NYC (where the 335i is now kept) the Jag is much better on the pothole ravaged streets.

The transmissions are virtually identical, bot have ZF 6 speed autos. The XKR paddles are set up like the M3 ith the left paddle for upshifts and the right paddle for downshifts. The ZF is a phenomonal transmission and shoes how goot ATs have gotten in the last few years.

The XKR was considerably more expensive and feels it, particulaly in the interior, I don't have any complaints about the 335i interior (except perhaps for the cheap looking contact paper looking stuff that the top of the dash is covered with). The interior of the Jag is just at another level. Stule wise I think they are both nice looking cars but the Jag is much more of a head turner, possibly because it is a lot less common.

Both have resaonable luggage space but the back seat on the Jag is completely useless.

Ms Audio is into cars. She has told me her next car will be either a Maserati GT-S or a Bentley Continental Coupe. I hope she goes for the Maserati and lets me drive it sometimes.

I am seriously considering replacing the 335i with a Cayman S.

Very good stuff man....I appreciate it! I have not seen the xkr in person yet, and I just found out my local dealer doesn't have any in stock. I'm trying to get the wife to go for a drive tomorrow to another dealer about 30 miles away. Based on the hundreds of pics I've looked at over the last few hours, I'm sure I will agree with your "head turning" statment. I'm excited to see one in person. thanks again.

To the OP: sorry again to take this off topic.

CA, the Masarati GT-S is absolutely sexy! I would LOVE to own one. Those Jags are absolutely sexy.

I love watching the fabulous thing that is happening with Jaguar and their new products. Should restore English Automotive pride (I know they are not that english now).

Talking with the Jag salesmen yesterday. He said that they took some design cues from Astons book. It was very interesting.

Yeah, they mimic it quite well in profile especially.
