No other details.

Yeah, I saw that too and thought maybe Euro vs. US. Apparently, it means 'Monday version' vs. 'Thursday version'. No wonder they can't win a war.

Where did you get that cable? I was given a simple usb cable which does not connect to my Ipod. I tried connecting my ipod via a belkin usb connector, but the scrolling on my stereo is deadly slow! I think the connection might be my issue.

lyndon h - you need the special iPod cable. You already paid for it... your dealer is supposed to supply it.

-Try formatting USB device to FAT32 and give it a LABEL
It's just a flat structure...only folder, all files included...this is the only way that I can get the "random" feature to work properly as it won't shuffle across directories.

Not all the same bitrate but I'll note that the next time it fails. I mostly rip in 256kbps which I know is the limit for the cars' mp3 player.

AFAIK the IDTags are good...I rip the CD's using Mediaplayer so they should be fine. Doesn't happen on the same song every time either so I'm happy that it's not a file issue.

The flash device is brand new...16GB Corsair Voyager, which came pre-formatted in FAT32 and I gave it a label. Even tried another flash drive (an old 64 MB) that I have and the same happens with that drive.

I asked the service department about it and they said that they knew of no reported faults but were only going on training for the 6FL option next week.

No problem. BMW has done a horrible job with the introduction of this option. See this thread also: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55264

I'm having a few issues alluded to above. First, it's dissapointing that the "random" function won't span directories, so it will only play songs in an album in random order, not jump around from song to song amongst all albums. Annoying. Also, with one of my 1 GB drives, the thing will lock each time I shut the car off then on again. I have to unplug the drive and reinsert it. My other drives seem fine (they are all new and two are the same type).
On one of the drives (one that doesn't lock) a lot of my songs are mushed together and jumbled! So, a title will display on the screen, while a different song starts playing, then 10 seconds later, another song starts playing (in the middle of it, not at the beginning) and it will happen a few more times and then silence. I THINK this last one is my fault. I was copying about 100 things at once to several USB drives and I think the computer was hating me. I'll have to try that one again and only copy a bit at a time.

PS - I don't have an ipod so I don't care that much, but I didn't get the cable with my car. CA never heard of it until I mentioned that it should have come with the car. He talked to parts and they will mail me one. Oh, and I did get the ipod case thing. I thought it was for my cell phone..

I didn't notice the pouch during my ED, but I didn't know to look for it. Is there any common options among those that have it? interior colors etc? I would be disappointed if I didn't have it.

I wonder that too. I was thinking of making a poll that might answer that.

I'm guessing that it has been discussed previously, but this thread is huge...
We need a summary sticky.

Does anyone know if there is a way to keep your ipod from staying on all the time? I'm surprised that BMW did not program the 6FL to turn off the Ipod when car's radio is turned off. I know this functionality is available programmatically, because my Alpine 9857 with Ipod cable allowed this. Anyway, i think its a horrible idea to have a small hard drive running 24/7, especially in the texas heat. i guess im going to go through the hassel of unplugging my Ipod everytime i get out of my car.

But doesnt this just kill the efficiency i've gained with the Comfort Access...

lyndon_h - yes, this was discussed on one of the 14,000 6FL threads. Don't feel bad for missing it.

The iPod does not stay on all the time, just when the car is "on". After you leave the car and close it up, it will go off after a couple minutes. It also "wakes up" immediately - so it's easy to think it's always on. No need to unplug it.

To test for yourself: turn off the car and remove the key fob. Wait a couple mintutes and peek at it.

This is good to know that it does not drain the iPod battery, I just ordered my 335i coupe couple days ago and ordered the 6FL option, I think this full integration will be worth it, haven't seen it in person work but it sounds like it will be easy to use with iDrive. Now all I can do is wait...

Funny story.

I was watching Fifth Gear, the UK programme and they were reviewing the Hyundai Xceed. It's like an Elantra in UK. Anyways, the little thing had a AUX-in and USB port standard. haha

Then I remembered, I paid $400 for my USB port.

I've been saying for a long time that BMW is not really a leader in technology features or options (kudos for bluetooth though, as the rest of the world catches up).

Take that Hyundai on some twisties though... or take a closer look at the materials it's made of.

My CA sent me a description of the functionality of various items with the 6fl option. Now, why wasn't this information provided to customers? and much earlier???

A BIG thank you.

Guys,

I'm awaiting the delivery of my 118d SE with the Audio Package (including the 6FL) and I've been trawling the internet for ANY kind of info and this is by far the best source of concentrated information I've been able to find.

So thank you to everyone who contributed here (particularly Eric for his UK based info which was particularly useful to me ) you've saved me a lot of wasted time and answered every question I had outstanding. I've pre-warned my dealer to make sure he's got a cable for me when I collect!

Cheers everyone.
