2011 coupe - TINTS

Ladies and gents.

Mostly for those who have a 2011 e92... I was thinking of putting tints in a few weeks and wanted to know who here already have tints and their experience with them. The reason why I ask is because I had a 09 E90 with tints and after putting the windows down and up a few times the tints got all scratched. I had them replaced twice and with the same results. I took it to the dealer and was told that the tints were too thick but every other person I meet had the same problem, regardless of the film they used.

My question then is, has anyone experience this issue on the new 2011 coupes? I would hate to put tints to have the same problem. Its extremely annoying have a $40k+ car with scratches on the tints..

Also anyone with a white e92 and limo tints? can you post pics?

Thanks!

I got a two light scratches early on when I first got the tints done but haven't had any more since then and they are not really noticeable unless you really focus on looking for them. I know there's an aftermarket moleskin liner you can have installed to prevent the scratching. When I mentioned this problem to my SA he said there's an OEM solution too, and it's covered under warranty. I didn't pursue that any further after asking him because I don't like having my car in the shop unnecessarily and the 2 light scratches aren't a big deal for me

I've heard of that but the majority of the tints shops I've been to have no idea what that is.

Does anyone have the moleskin liner install? does it work?

I've been reading several threads for days now and I get all sort of mix reviews. People are saying that its only on the e90 and not the e92 but the others are saying that some e92s have the same problem.

can anyone confirm of a recent tint install on a 2011 e92 without the felts? any scratches?

also while on the subject, whats up with the "dot Matrix" I'm confuse, can some elaborate?

Thanks

Never had a problem personally. Just get it done well the first time and take a week to let it dry without rolling em down.
After, that its great!

I thought this was only an E90 problem. Neither of my E92's had their tints scratched and I know my tinter didn't apply felt.

I had my ceramic tint on my e92 for over a year now. No scratching at all. Make sure you take your car to a reputable shop. The e92 has a lot of dot matrix area on the windows.

Yes sir, on an E93 actually. About 400$ but you won't find a better tint- and it's guaranteed for LIFE.

Mine has tint all around - no problem at all. Had the rear dot matrix spray painted as well.

here's the product I was gonna buy:
http://www.tintprotector.com/bmw/index.htm

ended up not buying it after i observed that I was not getting more scratches over time

You may want to ask your SA about this. My SA said it's a known issue and they have a fix for it

I'm also in the same boat - have an '11 E92 and really want to put some tints on. I have always tinted my previous cars and never had any issues - but after reading some posts here, I'm a little bit concern.

I'm waiting for the weather to get a little bit warmer before I do it. Anybody that has '11 E92 and had any problems?

I've had my 2009 E90 tinted for almost a year now with absolutely no scratches. My tinter installed the moleskin without even asking me, so I would say it works

My 08 coupe had moleskin already inside the door ( I told the tintshop about how it would need it). No scratches or issues after 10 months.

No scratches on an E92 2011 with 50% 3M tint. Only complain is that the shop that did it had no idea how to do the 'dot matrix' area on the rear glass and it looks like it's peeling off at the top. I might get the rear glass redone at some point. May want to talk to the installer and make sure that they know how to do the dot matrix part.
