You have to look at pros and cons.

Living in an area with well defined seasons (winter, spring, summer, autumn) is so much better for your mental and physical health, that having to give your car a good wash and good coat of wax once in a while is a very minor nuisance.

I live in SFBA, so I can get by simply because the mountains are not far from here. I can't even imagine what some people in Southern California have to endure.

Here is my e93

If you look under all the snow it's clean.

I take it to the carwash several times a week when I can drive it on the road.

Reminds me when I was driving through some little podunk town near Little Rock one time and I saw a car that had been sitting for a few days in what felt like 150% humidity and the car had some type of furry mold growing on it.

thats exactly what I did with my Subaru when I was in Rochester, NY. Little care goes a long way... No reason to hide the car in the garage like a pussycat. hahha

I find it tough to get to the carwash, maybe I should break down and use the automatic one (prefer to spray it by hand). The car is still caked in salt as in the original pic. I was out-of-town end of last week, and we went away this past weekend, and the day is always 12-14 hrs. That's why if it sat clean in the garage, there'd be no need to wash it at all. I just have to hope BMW is much better than Nissan, as I plan on keeping the car 20+ yrs.

My 3 series stays in my garage during the winter.
Some of you may think it's crazy but to me, I've been there and done that with a nice car. Salt rust the rotors, gets all up in the engine bay and under body. I rather preserve and protect my investment. I'm fortunate enough to be able to have a second car to drive.
I am fortunate like you to have a second car and my car goes off the road on December 1 and does not go back on the road until April 1.

I bought my car brand new and have no plans on selling it so I would like to keep it as nice looking as possible. Not only does the salt eat the car but the salt flying off the salt trucks hitting your car and putting paint chips in the paint drives me nuts even with my second car which is a 2002 VW 6 cylinder Passat.

Yeah, I hate the salt trucks. I feel like I need a 3rd car to drive to protect my 2nd car sometimes. I wish people would learn how to drive without relying on salt.

Finally dug it out from the 3 feet of snow.

I have a truck for when it is really bad out.... but I drive my e93 all year when I can.....and on summer sport tires.

No reason to not drive it and keep it clean.

Those crazy germans over engineer these cars to handle it.

The salt is not the only thing about winter that sucks. Around my area they put down magnesium sulfate all the time and the potholes are ridiculous. Due to the fact that I will keep my car for the long haul til the end I want to keep it rust free, so I don't drive it in the winter. 44 degress today without a cloud in site and this is what I see

I washed my car last week, and it's still clean. Didn't drive it on Sat. since it rained. Rain tomorrow? Taking the Nissan to work.

I don't mind driving it in snow, it's got snows on all corners. If it can be easily avoided, I will, if not, c'est la vie. Still not loving that salt...

Cars are made to be driven... in all weather... so do it, just clean them when they need it.
