Help With Ticket - Please Help!

Hey guys, I'd really appreciate some help with this one.

So i was test driving a lotus elise , and then i got pulled over for speeding. Go figure.

Anyway, my question pertains to insurance. I was pulled over in NY and I am a CT driver and resident. I am currently under my parents insurance plan. I would like to just plead guilty and pay the fine. But, I was wondering if since its out of state, that my insurance wouldn't be affected.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Since I would have to get off work to go to traffic court.

There is a reciprocal agreement between NY and CT.

If you plead not guilty to a ticket in NY, most of the time the officer or prosecutor will try to settle before going to trail unless it was a DWI/DUI case.
Depends on what county or town you got it in.

It was in Port Chester, Ny.

The cop said it "would be worth your time to go to the court date".

I'm assuming it will be reduced.

My excuses include driving an unfamiliar car on an unfamiliar road.

Not gonna really stick...they heard everything.

How much over were you speeding...and was it in a school zone or construction zone?

there's 2 ways you can go about it:

Basically you either show up on the plea entry date/time at the court written on the bottom portion...talk to the officer or the prosecutor (most likey the prosecutor) and they will lower your charge in exchange for a guilty plea (like plead guilty to a no seatbelt charge, no points)

OR sign the back of the ticket on the NOT GUILTY part and mail it to the court address written on the bottom of the ticket.
Wait anywhere from 3-4 months to a year or so for a trail date.
And my favorite...call the court 2 weeks before the trail and tell them you will be out of the country for that week
I've done that to all my tickets

Wait again which is a repeat wait time of up to a year...show up and the prosecutor or officer (officer will most likey appear) will bargin you for a lower charge.

If the cop doesn't show or you don't see him, make a motion to dismiss due to no-show officer. Sometimes they will attempt to reschedule the court but you MUST object and tell them you had to take the day off work or whatever important and you cannot afford to do it again.
(friend's dad is a lawyer and friend got in trouble when a undercover cop charged him a traffic violation after he went to get beer, got it dismissed because the cop was a no show)

No one in the courts wants to go to trail, it wastes everyone's time in traffic cases.

Town cop = easy
County cop = still easy side
State police = a bit tougher

Thats about as good as the old "I was late" and the judge will respond "So you felt that your need to rush was worth risking everyone else's life on the road that day"... Yea try responding to that...

Thanks for the replies.

I was doing 52 in a 30.

I guess I wont make an excuse at all and just say im here because the cop told me i should show up. I've never been to one of these before so i dont even know how long these proceedings take.

So if the cop doesn't show, then i make a motion to dismiss. (too bad i dont really remember what he looks like) I guess the name on the ticket is good enough.

If he does show, then i just take a guilty plea which i assume will be of lesser consequence because i made the effort to show up. Will it, it most cases, be reduced since im there, or do i have to bargain somewhat?

I wonder what the hell the cop meant by it being worth my time to show up. Maybe he doesnt plan on showing on a tuesday night at 7pm?!

It's a Lotus. You can take 90 degree turns at about 90.

Best thing to do is ask if you can be put on probation and hopefully you are able to ask the judge to take into account your past clean record.
