One thing I find works well on alloys and is not aggresive on the lacquer is Fairy Power Spray. Spray it on and leave if for a few minutes. By the time you've set the hose up the brake dust just washes off. Try it - it might surprise you and it's much cheaper than the 'proper' stuff. If it doesn't work for you, give it to the missus as a present.
