Hi there i picked up my e92 335i on sat and i love it but just have a couple of questions. Ive tried the search but nothing definative seems to come up

i was wondering when they brought out the ed mine is a 2008 manual and im not sure weather it falls in band k £260 or band L £445 tax bracket?

any ideas how to check?

also i appreciate its cold at the moment but the oil temp seems to take a long while to get up to temp, and obviously dont want to be giving it a bootfull before its warmed up!
Is this pretty normal?

Just in comparison to my 330ci if that would make any difference!

I have just picked up a 335i last Friday. It is an 07 but the tax is £445 so I would think yours is the same.

Mine and the 5-6 that I test drove all took an age to warm up. It seems alot longer than other cars because it is the oil temp and most cars show you the water temp. I think this is normal but I don't give it the bootfull until the needle is well off the bottom line. It normally settles at 1-2 lines below the 120 half way mark but takes a long time to get there. Like 20 mins.

Tax wise it changed in 08.

Welcome Gareth, great choice of car. I've had mine for nearly 3 years now, and I totally love it.
Have a look at the V5 registration document, that'll tell you the CO2 emissions, mine is 228 G/Km so I pay £445 per year
Something like What Car will tell you the band you're in, if you know the CO2 figure that is.
My car's oil temp gauge takes about 7 or 8 miles of normal driving to reach the usual temperature; I have no idea if it is OK to cane it before that, but have read many times that full boost/turbos/cold engine is not a happy combination. May be 7 or 8 miles is too prudent though - someone else will no doubt chip in soon.

The 335i really is a brilliant car, enjoy! This forum is also fantastic for advice.

The disk says 245 on it, but would that be for 6 months or 12 i couldnt see that on there?

direct.gov lists the change as 2008

and bmw and parkers listed it was from september 2007 so 57 plate onwards?

Once im used to the power a remap is definatley on the cards!

£245 is the band J full year rate, so looks like you have the lower emissions car then.
For a remap, I thouroughly recommend Evolve, they are top guys, although people say good things about JB4 and Cobb too (more research for you!).

Ive been doing plenty of research and im stuck between evolve and the jb4 but it will be a little while yet plenty of time to decide!

You can check by exact car type and date online, try DVLA, again confirm the CO2 figures from your V5.

The tax disc will say the issue and expiry date on it so you can work it out.

Not really, take it into account, but don't avoid the car for it - what's £200 a year?

1 tyre? 2.5 tanks of fuel?

Hardly worth avoiding a car for if its at the right price, and it will be reflected in the used price of course.

I had mine in Evolve on Monday and they turned it into a monster. It was very quick but it is seriously fast now. All that torque. I will post up a thread with a review and the dyno print out later on.

I wiould reccommend Evolve to anybody.

I have an Evolve stage 1 flash now and am booked in next Monday for thier stage 2. ETS intercooler allready on and AR Design catted DP's going on on Sat. Should be an inteesting drive back from Luton to Manchester.

That is going to be awsome!! If you don't mind me asking what sort of £££'s are we talking to make the move form stage1 to stage2? Also what sort of figures are you hoping for?

I havent even been able to use mine properly yet due to work, cold and damp. 2nd just lights up the dash. I'm not even sure I have used the gears enough for it to trim out above 6krpm. I am hoping for a dry weekend so I can go for a long blast.

The ETS intercooler was around £500 and DP's £650, both are around 4 hours to fit so if you find a decent indy your looking around £200. You'd need to speak to Imran regardng the cost of the software. Neil at Juiced up is a top UK supplier for the parts.

Power wise you looking at 420bhp and 420 ft-lbs...

To give you a rough idea of the costs involved:
Evolve Stage 1 = £500 ish, will take you to 365 - 370 hp
Stage 2 needs the following:
uprated intercooler (my ETS unit was £650 plus £100 for fitting)
AR downpipes (£750 for catted ones, catless a bit cheaper, fitting around £300)
Evolve Stage 2 £300 if you've had stage 1 already

This will raise the power to 400 + hp if the car is healthy.

Certainly the Stage 1 is immense value for money. Stage 2 adds to the fun but diminishing returns definitely kicks in.

You must tell your insurers in my opinion - extra ££'s
Also you'll want to think about the Quaife diff in order to put the power down; this will set you back around £1800 fitted I think.

Oh, and these sort of mods will invalidate any warranty. Assuming the warranty provider becomes aware of them.........

I think that the diff is a must really. Since the tune there has been a bit of an issue putting the power down but that has a lot to do with the weather. There is a company called AMD Tuning in Essex which fits for around £1500 which seems reasonable.

You are right about the bang for buck on the stage1 and it definatley seems to do the job. For now...

Nah - Over 40mph I put the power down just fine, even in the wet. 420bhp/420tq.

If you don't plan to track it, see how you get on.. I'd still snap up a used one though - 480bhp on its way...
