GARMIN 255w with tinted windows

I plan to purchase the unit and a friend loan it to me for trial. Suprisingly, the statelite fail to get any signal in my tinted E90. Went to dealer to enquire and they said could be my tinted windows and he told me it could work if I try to wind down the window......that does not serve the purpose, does it? Is that true?? By the way have not tried with the windows down coz unit returned to friend.

Is your windshield tinted with metallic tint?
Having the other windows tinted should not matter as your GPS unit should be mounted to the windshield.

Mine is not metallic tint.....i've also tried trying to get the signal from the windshield but to no effect.....maybe it's not meant for me to get a GPS installed. Could it be the model type?? Any other reason you can think of??

The 'signal' is only several radio signal relaying accurate time. Plastic tint shoudn't stop it.
